Marcelo "coldzera" David's recent debut with RED Canids has thrust him into a legal battle with his former team, Legacy. The organization has taken the unprecedented step of contacting tournament organizers, urging them to bar coldzera from competing for his new team, citing an active contractual commitment with their organization.

Contractual dispute unfolds

In an email obtained by Dust2 Brasil, Legacy asserts that coldzera remains contractually bound until December 9, 2024, and asks tournament organizers to withhold his participation until the matter is resolved, either through mutual agreement or in a U.S. court of law.

Valve and legal action

Legacy mentions in that email that Valve is already aware of the situation and is working towards a resolution. Additionally, the organization states its intention to present the case in a United States court, with coldzera being listed as the sixth player by the team in all future tournaments.

This move echoes a similar action taken by coldzera himself. On April 18, a note from the player's legal team asserting his disassociation from Legacy was sent to various tournament organizers, including Valve, and was received by the press.

Timeline of events

Legacy's email also provides a timeline of events surrounding coldzera. On March 25, one day after coldzera benching, he learned from Legacy's staff that all official contacts and negotiations should come through the organization.

Amidst transfer market rumors, Legacy directly contacted Felippe Corradini, CEO of RED, to emphasize that negotiations for coldzera should involve Legacy's staff - but at that time the RED Canids' CEO refused any potential interest on the legendary player.

Where will it all end up for Coldzera?

The ongoing legal dispute between Legacy and coldzera underscores the intricacies and legal complexities surrounding player contracts in esports. As the situation continues to unfold, the gaming community eagerly awaits further developments and clarity on the resolution of this dispute. Meanwhile, tournament organizers face the challenge of navigating contractual obligations while ensuring fair competition within the esports ecosystem.
