RAID: Shadow Legends is a fast-growing favourite among RPG-fans, and we love its gloomy theming and strategic gameplay. You can play RAID: Shadow Legends on PC, Mac and mobile devices – but you might want to read our guide beforehand.
You see, RAID: Shadow Legends isn’t like other RPGs. It’s a little less action-oriented and a little more geared towards turn-by-turn combat. It also demands a lot from players in terms of strategizing, item-juggling and constantly fine-tuning your all-round approach to the game. Fortunately, our RAID: Shadow Legends guide has you covered here.

We’re sure this’ll be the first question on many of your lips, so let’s get this cleared-up right away. RAID: Shadow Legends is a free-to-play RPG, though whether you’re playing via PC, Mac or a mobile device, in-app purchases will apply.
Due to the “in-app purchases” nature of the game, you can expect ad pop-ups and promotions to interrupt your gameplay every once in a while – but this can often prove to be more useful than it is irritating. You see, temporary and time-limited promotions offering in-game upgrades don’t hang around for long here, so it’s important to pay attention to your RAID: Shadow Legends notifications and claim any offers that catch your eye quickly.
Naturally, players can upgrade their accounts up-front, too. This enables you to enjoy boosted XP and multi-battle attempts – all stuff we’ll touch on in more detail later. There are two paid options available, which are:
💵 Type | Silver Raid Card | Gold Raid Card |
💳 Cost | $9.99 monthly with a 7-day free trial | $49.99 for 6 months |
⭐️ XP | 1 month +20% XP Campaign battles | 6 month +20% XP Campaign battles |
🤝 Multi-battle attempts | Get +70 multi-battle attempts daily | Get +70 multi-battle attempts daily |
The Silver and Gold Raid Cards above are automatically renewed once a month or once every six months, respectively. From our standpoint, the Gold Raid Card offers the most potential for more serious gamers, while beginners might want to simply stick to free-play until you guys have mastered the lay of the land first, then trial a Silver Raid Card for a bit.
This all boils down to you, and your preferred way of playing. Gamers can download RAID: Shadow Legends from:
Alternatively, you can also log in to play RAID: Shadow Legends online via Plarium’s site directly. If opting for the latter, though, we’d recommend using Google Chrome or Brave, which tend to run the game most smoothly. Some players have reported hiccups when playing via Firefox or Edge, though the tests we performed encountered only very minor, blink-and-you’d-miss-it style lag.
RAID: Shadow Legends is an RPG with a difference. Let’s delve into the storyline before we hit you with how the game works, and what you can expect in terms of look and feel.
This is a dark fantasy game with an old-school “chosen warriors” narrative. RAID: Shadow Legends is set in the realm of Teleria, where your job is to recruit legendary warriors (i.e., yourself, a few buddies and some computer players) from the game’s conflicting forces of Darkness and Light.
In a nutshell, the aim of the game is to piece together a well-trained team of raiders, or “Champions'', who’ll fight together against demons, bagging plenty of loot, XP, kooky characters, new player attributes and other goodies along the way. There are 12 locations in the main “Campaign” mode, and you can collect heroes from 15 different factions. These include knights, elves and even the undead.
Experienced gamers will appreciate the layered menus and endless customisation options available in RAID: Shadow Warriors, while noobs might find the interface a little on the clunky side. Generally, once you’ve figured out where to find and select the items you need, though, it’s pretty plain-sailing from there.
Many RAID: Shadow Legends reviews have pointed out that the game’s retro turn-based combat set-up is a bit of a departure from the action-led RPG style players have come to expect in recent years, and we tend to agree – though we wouldn’t say this is at all a bad thing.
Any lovers of strategy games among you will be in your element here, as you’ll need to constantly think two or more moves ahead and fine-tune your approach to suit different battle scenarios, whether they take place in the regular Arena or you’re squaring up a boss in a dank dungeon somewhere. It’s kind of like a game of chess, but with sorcerers and skinwalkers.
Whether you’re firing up RAID: Shadow Legends on PC, Mac, or a capable Android smartphone, you can expect incredibly cleanly-rendered 3D graphics. Look closely enough, and you’ll even be able to eye-up minor battle scars in your heroes’ armour.
HD textures are used to add a sense of true tangibility to surfaces, environments and depth-of-field, though some gamers have reported disappointment with the ways shadows have been depicted. That said, regular updates are rolling out by the day, and there’s no denying that the latest versions show vast improvements over what we’ve seen previously.
We believe the key to getting the most out of RAID: Shadow Legends is to take full advantage of the myriad tools and customisation options available. Obviously though, due to the nature of the game, each challenge you come up against will require vastly different strategies to the next, so be prepared to be unprepared. Sort of. You’ll get there in time.
A couple of strategies that may (or may not) work out for you, include:
First up, the easy way out. You’ll get +20% XP from Campaign battles for up to six months by paying to upgrade, making this hands-down the easiest option if you need to strengthen your warriors quickly before that next big multi-battle attempt and aren’t afraid of breaking the bank.
Challenging other players directly or climbing your way up arena rankings can sometimes unlock one-off items and unique gear you can’t unlock elsewhere. Whether you’re playing RAID: Shadow Legends for PC or on your phone, each item will inevitably have its uses in one raid or another – perhaps even when you’d least expect it.
With heroes from 15 different factions up-for-grabs here, it’s wise to select a well-balanced team that brings together the conflicting skill sets of elves, knights, and other Champions. Be prepared to shake-up your team a little ahead of each challenge, too.
From special healing powers to stand-out Area of Effect (AoE) attack boosters that will up the damage caused by your characters’ key skills, you have tons of choices in terms of what to equip your Champions with ahead of each battle. So, pick wisely and strategically each time.
That’s right – you can build tanks whenever you play RAID: Shadow Legends online. Awesome, right? These can be used to taunt your opponents – which is great if you’re facing down a tough boss who might need to be distracted.

We get that this is a RAID: Shadow Legends review we’re bringing you here, but we’ve also a sense that maybe one or two of you might be thinking RAID just isn’t for you. If so, here are some alternative RPG, fantasy and other games that are for sure worth a look:
Elvenar offers you the opportunity to build the magical city of your dreams from either a human or elf standpoint. You can play directly via your browser, unlock up to 200 new technologies and play alongside hundreds or even thousands of other players.
This Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game won’t be sending you off to big battles or wars anytime soon, but it certainly makes for good therapy and detox after your RAID: Shadow Legends Champions have taken a good beating or two.
If you came here hoping to discover an all-out action game rather than a more strategic RPG, Drakensang is definitely worthy of your attention.
Powered by Bigpoint GmbH, the fantasy-themed world of Drakensang is as dark as it is entertaining – giving you the chance to slay dragons, battle monsters and take on other ferocious enemies in the magical realm of the Anderworld. Expect killer 3D graphics, Hollywood-level storytelling, and some seriously scary creature effects.
Forge of Empires allows you to play God, but way, way back in the Stone Age. You can rewrite history as you game, establish a mighty, world-conquering empire, and play your way through human history’s best (and worst) time periods.
Here you can swap elves and warriors for colonisation and industrialisation – but battles also make up a big chunk of gameplay, too. You’ll need to build armies to attack provinces and civilisations and plunder their goods to further your empire. Or empires.
With clean graphics, beautifully dark theming and strategy-driven gameplay that requires the constant adaptation of your overall approach, RAID: Shadow Legends is a perfect fit for RPG-lovers who like to be kept on their toes – though gamers seeking more action-led games might want to check out some of the best browser games explored elsewhere on our site, or one of the alternatives outlined above.
RAID: Shadow Legends costs nothing to download or play, making it great from an affordability perspective. It’s also rather unique gameplay wise, which all gamers know can only ever be a good thing. So, why not get your raid on by trying out this delightfully gloomy fantasy game today?
