It's been a year since Chamber joined the Valorant protocol. After taking over the game for more than nine months, Riot has finally rolled out the nerfs of Chamber's broken Ultimate Tour de force and Headhunter to balance the abilities. Riot will test the agent changes in the upcoming week's Valorant PBE release. The changes will hit the public release with the forcoming Valorant Patch

The ability problem of Chamber:

Overall, the Chamber's design allowed him to be an operator agent; on the surface, the agent is pretty balanced. The agent's problem lies in the agent's ultimate and headhunter abilities. Starting with the headhunter, the powerful side arm had little to no bullet spread, making it easy to spam, and with 55 damage, the ability was exploitable. Chamber's Ultimate Tour De Force was speedy, and the slow field made it extremely hard to counter the agent ultimate. With these two problems, The agent felt pretty broken, and the community hated Chamber. Riot addressed the agent's issues and confirmed the incoming changes to the agents kit in order to balance the agent. Riot will test the changes in the upcoming Valorant PBE and thereafter release it to the public environment.

The much-awaited Chamber nerfs:

  • Reduction in slow field size by 30% and slow duration by 33.3%

  • Slow effect % reduced by 10%

  • Trademark will be range-restricted, similar to Killjoy's alarm bot.

  • The trademark will be recallable with a 30s cooldown

  • Trademark Health increased to 20

  • Initial startup time increased from 2s to 4s.

Rendezvous Changes (E):

[embed]https://twitter.com/ValorLeaks/status/1598357673170321409[/embed]

  • Chamber can to a single-placed article within range

  • Weapon equip time after teleporting increased from 0.4s to 0.7s

  • Once the Rendezvous anchor is destroyed, it will be destroyed for the rest of the round.

  • No height restriction on Rendezvous activation.

  • Increased range from 15m to 26m

  • No cooldown after recalling the anchor activating rendezvous.

The aftermath:

The buffs to the rendezvous will impact how players play the agent. This will add another dimension to a rather unidimensional Chamber. Especially the single anchor activation and immediate reuse will add additional complexity to the agent.

Players can get creative with the agent, and the increased rendezvous range will help the players play the agent in multiple ways. The changes also addressed the Tour de Force and Headhunter and will reduce the exploitability of the abilities and are a step in the right direction.

The agent changes are Riot understanding the game better and learning from past mistakes. The agent changes will not kill the agent but will effect how the agent will play. It will be interesting to see how the community interacts with the new Chamber.

These are only some of the final changes to the agent, and they will be tested heavily and then implemented in the publicly available version. Riot will implement the changes with Valorant Patch 5.12. The Valorant Patch 5.12 will also have some other major changes, including smurfing counter-measures, and will be one of the biggest updates of the year.
