On 2nd March, Twitter Accounts Gabe Follower 2(@gabefollower) and Aquarius(@aquaismissing) tweeted about added Nvidia Driver support for executables CS2.exe and Csgo2.exe which will likely be the update for CS:GO.

The tweet sparked rumors and conversation about the upcoming version of Counter-Strike. Moreover, Two days ago, Gabe Follower 2 followed up the previous tweet with an update. The Tweet mentioned Valve testing CS:GO on Source 2 using Third Party QA companies.

The community took the tweets skeptically. This was not the first time the rumors or tweets about CS:GO 2 or CS on Source engine surfaced. This, paired with the radio-silent from Valve, added to the skepticism. Eventually, Esports reporter extraordinaire Richard Lewis published an article about CS 2 rumors confirming CS 2.

Richard Lewis confirmed the news of the upcoming update in the published piece. Moreover, the newer version is much closer than we think. The better version of the game has been in development for a while and the Beta releases by 1st April.

The latest iteration or the version of the beloved Tact-fps title will address multiple game issues, including the 64-tick MM servers. The game will be using the Source 2 engine rather than the 2004's Source. The change in the engine will result in dropped performance in the lower-end machines. With the Source 2 engine, the game will also introduce 128-tick servers and an updated MM system to replace third-party MMs like Faceit.

While Richard Lewis's report says CS 2 will be a new game, and there are no updates on the Esports scene of the new game, it may completely depend on the tournament organizers. On the other hand, Gabe Follower 2 reported CS 2 would not be a sequel but an update with CS:GO on Source 2.

Valve and the CS:GO official channels have yet to confirm the new version. But it is due time Valve starts moving before its competitor takes over. Valorant, CS:GO's direct competitor, currently boasts a 22M active player base compared to the 1.3 M of CS:GO. A long-awaited update will help CS:GO be on track to become the #1 tact-fps. There are no official announcements about the sequel; until then,  all the dates are tentative.
