The group stage of the Riyadh Masters 2024 begins today. The opening series features Team Falcons against Team Spirit, both considered favourites to win the tournament. Team Falcons has been victorious in most tournaments this season, while Team Spirit, the two-time TI champions, have displayed an outstanding performance in their recent LAN, PGL Wallachia Season 1.

It was also the rematch of the PGL Wallachia Season 1 lower bracket finals, where Team Falcons played with a stand-in, and Team Spirit emerged victorious. Consequently, this series serves as a chance for Falcons to seek revenge. However, they were not successful, as Team Spirit went up against their full roster and still emerged victorious.

The Game

In the first game, Team Falcons dominated the laning stage with a well-thought-out draft. They snowballed this advantage to taking a lane of barracks around the 19-minute mark. However, Team Spirit was ready and took an unexpected skirmish against Team Falcons on their high ground to stop the snowball.

Despite Team Falcons' efforts to regain momentum with another Aegis, they were not successful. Team Spirit seized their opportunity successfully and closed it out with their Morphling draft at 44 minutes. The second game was a one-sided stomp from Team Spirit. They drafted a lineup consisting of Clinkz, Snapfire, and Primal Beast out-maneuvering Team Falcons and closed out the game at 35 minutes.

Larl Comments on Team Falcons' In-game Mistakes

The first game was completely in Team Falcons' favour until the 19-minute mark when Team Spirit took a surprise skirmish on their high ground, catching Falcons off-guard. In the post-game interview, Team Spirit's midlaner, Denis "Larl" Sigitov, reflected on that moment.

The player also shared his thoughts on how Team Falcons could have prepared for the skirmish to avoid losing their advantage. He also mentioned that Team Falcons should have drafted more decisively, as their draft included two heroes who are currently top picks for the safe lane.

" I think Sven should farm BKB. He has enough money to buy BKB. They just maybe feel they strong enough to go high ground, but they don't understand our power. I think they just choose Brood or Sven because it's more core."

Larl: It's good to have some updates in Dota 2

The Riyadh Masters 2024 marked Team Spirit's first LAN appearance following the Patch 7.36 update. This update was significant for Dota 2 as it introduced two new concepts to the game: Facets and Innates.

Following their win against Team Falcons, Spirit's midlaner, Larl shared some of his thoughts on Facets. The player expressed that he is happy with the overall patch update in Dota 2 and revealed how it impacted his hero pool.

" It's good to have some updates in Dota 2, and we just feel good in newpatch. Good Snapfire buff, also Ember and Storm, he was good, but now he is just okay."

Larl on his journey at Team Spirit

Last year, the Riyadh Masters 2023 was the first time where Larl won a tier 1 tournament with Team Spirit. Before that, he was considered a weak link in the team. Fast forward to this year's iteration of the Riyadh Masters; he is one of the most feared midlaners in the professional scene. The player reflected on his journey since then and stated he is content to still play with his team.

" I don't have much feeling about it. Just feel good that I can play with my team and show good game. "

Their victory against Team Falcons and their most recent LAN peformance indicate that Team Spirit is ready to defend their crown at The Riyadh Masters 2024. Their upcoming series is against OG.
