1win Essence
Overview
1win Essence is a Dota 2 tournament series organized by BASED Esports and sponsored by the betting company 1win. Launched in 2026, it consists of online events primarily targeting European and CIS servers, featuring a mix of Tier 1 and high Tier 2 competition. Editions carry Liquipedia Tier 1 or Tier 2 designations, with prize pools ranging from $100,000 to $200,000 USD. The series provides mid-to-high-level competitive opportunities outside major LAN circuits such as The International or PGL events, often serving as a bridge during roster shuffle periods or pre-major preparation. The third edition (1win Essence III / Season 3 2026) is a Tier 1 event with a $200,000 USD prize pool.
History
The 1win Essence series debuted in 2026 under BASED Esports with 1win as title sponsor. 1win Essence I ran from May 2 to May 11, 2026, as a Tier 2 online event with a $100,000 USD prize pool. It used a multi-stage format including round-robin groups, a decider stage, and double-elimination playoffs.
1win Essence II followed from July 30 to August 5, 2026, elevated to Tier 1 status with a doubled $200,000 USD prize pool and 10 teams. It featured two round-robin groups of five advancing to double-elimination playoffs and served as a final tune-up before The International 2026, with most participants already TI-qualified.
1win Essence III was initially scheduled for early September 2026 but postponed due to incomplete post-TI roster rebuilds among Tier 1 teams. It was rescheduled for November 2026, introducing a dedicated Play-in stage for the first time to expand access for mid-tier teams. The main event runs fully online on Europe West servers. The series has remained entirely online, emphasizing frequent high-level European/CIS competition.
Format
The current edition, 1win Essence III (Season 3 2026), is a fully online Tier 1 event on Europe West servers. It features a Play-in stage followed by a main event with a total of 12 teams competing for a $200,000 USD prize pool.
Play-in (November 7–11, 2026): 10 invited mid- and lower-tier teams divided into two single round-robin groups of five. All matches are best-of-three (Bo3). The top two teams from each group (four total) advance to the main event; remaining teams are eliminated. No separate playoff bracket or cash prizes for the Play-in.
Main event group stage (November 12–14, 2026): 12 teams (8 direct invites + 4 from Play-in) split into four round-robin groups of three. All matches Bo3. The top two teams from each group (eight total) advance to the playoffs; the bottom team in each group is eliminated.
Playoffs (November 15–18, 2026): Eight-team double-elimination bracket. All matches Bo3 except the Grand Final, which is best-of-five (Bo5). Prize distribution: 1st $100,000, 2nd $50,000, 3rd $22,500, 4th $12,500, 5th–6th $5,000 each, 7th–8th $2,500 each (9th–12th no prize).
Notable Editions
1win Essence I (May 2026) marked the series launch as a Tier 2 event that showcased rising and established European/CIS sides alongside some international invites. PARIVISION’s undefeated run, culminating in a clean Grand Final sweep, established early credibility.
1win Essence II (July–August 2026) stands as the highest-profile edition to date. As one of the final events before The International 2026, it featured a strong field including multiple TI contenders. Team Liquid’s dominant performance, including topping their group and sweeping the Grand Final against Team Falcons, highlighted peak form heading into the season climax. The edition also delivered the series’ strongest viewership.
1win Essence III (November 2026) introduced the Play-in format for broader access after the post-TI shuffle chaos that caused its postponement. It features defending champions Team Liquid alongside powerhouses such as Team Spirit, PARIVISION, Aurora Gaming, LGD Gaming, GamerLegion, 1w Team, and DO KONCA (ex-BetBoom), plus Play-in qualifiers. The expanded structure and $200,000 prize pool position it as a key late-year online Tier 1 event.
