Team Liquid continues it's roster overhaul, this time by recruiting two of their biggest rivals. Marcus "Ace" Christensen and Erik "tOfu" Engel join the squad, after a three and a half year stint with Gaimin Gladiators.

The two players will fill the gaps left behind by Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek and Aydin "Insania" Sarkohi, who have been benched and retired, respectively.

Team Liquid has a long history with Ace and tOfu

As part of Gaimin Gladiators, the new duo faced off against Team Liquid multiple times in the last few years. This was particularly apparent in 2023, when Gaimin Gladiators defeated Team Liquid in four major tournaments, including all three Majors.

This rivalry continued in 2024, with the two teams facing off in the biggest tournaments of the year. Ace and tOfu sent Team Liquid packing in Riyadh Masters 2024, but lost the Aegis to them at The International.

With so many grand finals between the two squads, it makes sense that Liquid would go to their rivals for new members. Nothing builds respect faster than facing a player, and the two sides certainly have their share of skirmishes over the years.

An interesting change for the duo is that they will no longer lane together. It's likely that tOfu will play hard support, as Samuel "Boxi" Svahn has been playing soft support for years now. This will be a big shakeup for the new comers, as they won't be laning together for the first time in four years.

This will be a fascinating shake up for Team Liquid. They have made huge changes to their roster, both in game and to the support staff. It'll be exciting to see how the squad performs at the upcoming BLAST Slam IV.
