Not too long ago, the news about the upcoming Call of Duty 2024 Gulf War broke out. Today, Insider Gaming reported the likely plot and codename for Call of Duty 2025.

The 2025 title will be a direct sequel to the Black Ops II released in 2012. Set in 2030, five years after the events of its predecessor, the game is codenamed Saturn.

Currently in development, the upcoming sequel will see the return of fan-favorite protagonists and their journey following Menendez’s death.

The game is likely to feature a complete movement overhaul, the return of a ‘pick 10’ create a class, gunfight mode and another Zombie mode, new maps and remastered Black Ops 2 maps.

The decision to include both new and remastered maps is largely due to the heavy criticism received for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. The 2023 title featured MW2 reworked maps and one of the shortest campaigns for a COD game.

Many referred to the game as a ‘glorified DLC’ for 2022’s MWII. Making things worse, the campaign was by far the worst-rated COD-campaign.

Despite the heavy criticism, the game still emerged as the top seller in November 2023. It performed well enough to warrant another Modern Warfare by Infinity Ward..

Call of Duty 2025 will be another Black Ops title following the 2024 installment set in the Gulf war. It is unclear if there will be carryforward from Gulf War into the 2025 title, given the significant time jump and multiple overhauls.
