The Successful Transition of Evil Geniuses to South America

Evil Geniuses had a rough Dota 2 season in 2022. Even though they finished in the top 12 and secured a direct invite to The International 11, they were not able to get a good enough result at the tournament and decided that their North American adventure had to end, probably due to financial reasons.

But they didn’t quit Dota 2 completely. Instead, EG moved to South America, where it’s much cheaper to hire competent players. The South American superstars had already proved their skills at The International 11, where they finished 6th – 7th (Thunder Awaken) and 7th – 8th (beastcoast).

Evil Geniuses’ Success in South America

The South American region is not exactly easy to conquer, even if you’re EG. But the North American organization made sure to talk to a lot of high-level players before making its final decision.

By the time EG arrived on the new continent, talented competitors from beastcoast and Thunder Awaken were already waiting for them. Three TA members and two beastcoast members were signed. Together, they now play under the EG banner and their results in Tour 1 of Dota Pro Circuit 2023 have been fantastic so far.

EG started the competition with 5 consecutive wins. During those 5 best-of-three matches, only one game was lost. This is a clear indication that EG’s transition to South America will be successful, which pretty much means that they’ll have the ability to compete at every single Major, as well as The International.

As long as EG’s current roster is motivated (and there are plenty of reasons why it should be), it’s going to be quite easy for the organization to secure a top 12 spot in the DPC rankings.

The biggest obstacle in the region remains beastcoast, whose current record is also 5 W – 0 L. The two teams will face each other in the last match of the competition, on January 29. That match will let us know who’s the number 1 team in South America.

Steven “StingeR” Mamani from beastcoast and Jean “Chris Luck” Salazar know each other very well because they used to be teammates. But now they’re rivals and a lot is on the line. The prize money is not that amazing, but the qualification points are really important. The winner gets 300, while the runner-up gets only 180.
