PGL will host its first LAN tournament of the year, PGL Wallachia Season 1, tomorrow. The inaugural tournament features a million-dollar prize pool. Additionally, it's the first tournament PGL plans to host during its marathon of tournaments between 2024-2026.

The tournament will feature sixteen teams from around the world. Among those sixteen teams, there are teams with consistent results in the prior tournaments, which makes them the favourites for PGL Wallachia Season 1.

Team Falcons

This newly formed MENA team has been dominating the 2024 Dota 2 professional scene. Although Team Falcons might be a new name in the scene, they consist of veterans and upcoming players. The unique blend of experience and talent which composes their roster enabled them to lift trophies at recent tournaments.

In four tournaments they attended, Team Falcons won three of them. When they didn't lift the trophy, the team secured a runner-up finish. Their recent accomplishments showed how strong the team is at the moment. Whether playing from behind or with a lead, the team has all the answers. Team Falcons' recent achievements have quickly solidified their reputation within the Dota 2 community. Moreover, their recent results make them the top contender for the PGL Wallachia Season 1 trophy.

In 2023, when Western Europeans dominated the professional Dota 2 scene, Eastern European teams emerged as strong contenders for them during the Riyadh Masters 2023 and The International 2023.  Team Spirit won both of the tournaments. However, they struggled to find their footing in 2024.

As a result, their resilient rival, BetBoom Team, has been filling their shoes for the Eastern European region. Although BetBoom had inconsistent results at LANs in the year when their rival reigned supreme, their results improved drastically for the 2024 Dota 2 professional scene.

In their recent four tournaments, they went from placing fourth to placing the runner-up position twice. The only opponent standing in their way of claiming their first trophy is Team Falcons.

Team Liquid

Team Liquid has been the most consistent team during the recent years thus far. Last year, the team was always in the runner-up spot at most LANs. Their biggest setback was at The International 2023. However, after their fifth-place finish at TI, they underwent a roster shuffle, bringing a TI-winning offlaner from Tundra Esports.

This move enabled them to triumph against their yearlong rivals, Gaimin Gladiators. However, the team faced new issues with the upcoming teams. Despite overcoming their rivals, Liquid continued to finish BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 in the runner-up spot. Additionally, in their recent tournaments, the team always secured the top-five finish.

With a Ti-winning offlaner on their roster, TL only needs time before securing their first trophy. Hopefully, PGL Wallachia Season 1 will be the tournament where they overcome their challenges and prove why they are the favourites.

Chinese teams are starting to make a comeback into the professional Dota 2 scene in 2024. One of them is Xtreme Gaming. The team consists of the region's veterans.

Despite being the first team to beat Team Falcons in a best-of-five series, Xtreme Gaming had inconsistent performances. Yes, they bested the top team at The Elite League and placed first runner-up spot at DreamLeague Season 22. However, in their most recent ESL One Birmingham 2024, XG had an unexpectedly disappointing 7th-8th place finish.

Xtreme Gaming proved they can restore the glory to the Chinese Dota 2 professional scene. Moreover, they have answers most teams struggled to find against Team Falcons. However, the question is: will Xtreme Gaming bring the best form to PGL Wallachia Season 1?

The teams mentioned above are our picks for the favourites at the upcoming PGL Wallachia Season 1. Fans can catch the thrilling action unfold live on PGL's Twitch channel.
