The 2025 Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu is set to light up the Counter-Strike 2 scene as sixteen of the world's best teams descend upon China on November 3-9 for another chapter in the prestigious IEM series.

With $300,000 on the line and crucial ESL Grand Slam points up for grabs, this tournament promises to deliver the high-octane action that has made Intel Extreme Masters the longest-running global pro gaming tour since 2006.

Tournament Format and Structure

The competition will unfold across two distinct phases at the Chengdu Financial City Performing Arts Center. The group stage features two GSL-format double-elimination brackets, each housing eight teams in best-of-three encounters.

The format ensures that only the cream of the crop advances, with the top three teams from each group securing their spots in the playoffs - group winners heading straight to the semifinals, while runners-up and third-place finishers battle through the quarterfinals.

The playoff stage adopts a single-elimination format, where every match carries maximum weight. All encounters remain best-of-three until the grand final, which expands to a best-of-five showdown to crown the champions. This structure has proven successful across previous IEM events, creating the perfect balance between group stage development and knockout drama.

Powerhouse Teams Ready for Battle

The participant list reads like a who's who of Counter-Strike excellence, with several top teams securing direct invitations. Team Vitality arrives as one of the tournament favorites, having established themselves as a dominant force throughout 2025. Their recent performances suggest they will be the team to beat in Chengdu.

Team Spirit and Team Falcons have also secured their invitations, bringing their star-studded rosters to China. MOUZ and The MongolZ round out the invited teams, each bringing their distinctive playstyles to the tournament, allowing a first-look at The MongolZ following Senzu's exit from the starting lineup.

The complete lineup also includes traditional powerhouses like Natus Vincere, Astralis, and G2 Esports, ensuring that every match will feature top-tier competition. Regional representatives like TyLoo and Lynn Vision Gaming will look to make their mark on home soil.

Additional contenders include Heroic, 3DMAX, Virtus.Pro, FaZe Clan, FURIA, and paiN Gaming, creating one of the most competitive fields in recent IEM history.

Stakes and Expectations

Beyond the substantial prize pool distribution that sees the champions claim $125,000, IEM Chengdu serves as a crucial checkpoint in the ongoing ESL Grand Slam race. Teams are not just competing for immediate glory but positioning themselves for the million-dollar Grand Slam prize that has become Counter-Strike's most coveted achievement.

The tournament also carries special significance as it marks another return of tier-1 Counter-Strike to Asia, with ESL confirming that live audiences will witness the group stage action. This creates an electric atmosphere that has historically elevated player performances and created unforgettable moments in IEM history.

As the Counter-Strike community prepares for another premium tournament experience, IEM Chengdu 2025 represents everything that makes the scene compelling - elite competition, international storylines, and the pursuit of Counter-Strike immortality. With such a stacked field and meaningful stakes, November cannot come soon enough for fans worldwide.
