FURIA's molodoy Says He May Need Eye Surgery
Danil "molodoy" Golubenko has revealed that he will likely need eye surgery. The Counter-Strike 2 AWPer shared the update on his Telegram channel on Sunday (October 18), following the team's Thunderpick World Championship 2026 victory.
The 21-year-old Kazakh player has been dealing with eye problems since August and said he has yet to make a full recovery. Despite the possibility of surgery, molodoy reassured fans that he would have time to address the issue.
"About my eye, I see a lot of comments. I still have some minor issues. I'll most likely undergo surgery. There's nothing to worry about. I'll have time for it. Don't worry, everything is fine and will be fine."
His statement came after FURIA defeated BETBOOM 3-2 in the Thunderpick World Championship 2026 Grand Final, securing their second consecutive title at the event.
molodoy Has Been Dealing With Eye Problems Since August
The issues began just days before the Esports World Cup 2026 in August. At the time, molodoy posted a photo showing his swollen, red eyelid. He has worn glasses during competitions since then.
In September, the player revealed that he was experiencing pressure in both eyes and had difficulty looking directly at light for extended periods. According to molodoy, FURIA's busy tournament schedule made it difficult to get a medical evaluation.
In early October, molodoy explained in an interview with HLTV that the condition had affected his performance during matches.
"It was hard to play because I felt pressure in my eyes. When you're trying to concentrate during a game, it's hard to explain. When you try to focus, there's a problem with your eyes, a kind of pain, and it affects you a lot."
During the same interview, the AWPer said his condition had improved significantly and that he was still taking medication. However, his latest statement indicates that the issue has not been fully resolved.
FURIA Set to Compete Again This Week
FURIA's next tournament is already approaching. The team is scheduled to compete at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026, taking place from October 24 to 31 in Romania. The event will feature 16 teams competing for a total prize pool of $1.25 million.
molodoy said he plans to rest for a few days before the next tournament. So far, the player has not announced a date for the potential surgery or indicated that he will miss any upcoming competitions.
