What to Expect From the CS2 Cologne Major 2026?

Referred to as the Cathedral of Counter-Strike, LANXESS Arena hosts one of the most prestigious CS events every year. Apart from the Major, IEM Cologne (prev. ESL One) is one of the two trophies every pro wants to get their hands on.

This time, however, Valve has sponsored the Cologne trophy, and that makes it extra special. Naturally, each of the 32 teams will try its hardest to take centre stage at LANXESS and lift the trophy.

Not to mention, the last three times the Major came to Cologne, it has always been extra special. First in 2014, NIP—with the 87-0 record—secured their first Major after failing twice. Second, when Fnatic became the first team to win back-to-back Majors in 2015. The third and final was in 2016, when the Brazilians established their dominance by winning back-to-back Majors.

Now, after 10 years, we have another team that is on the road to greatness—Team Vitality—playing for the legendary three-peat. The team has dominated 2026, winning almost every event they attended. Until recently, it felt they would achieve their three-peat uncontested, but as LANXESS approaches, the challengers have started to rise.

Will Team Vitality complete their three-peat and officially become the Greatest Counter-Strike roster in history? Will the challengers—Team Spirit, Team Falcons, Natus Vincere, FURIA—deny them a taste of glory? Can an underdog team complete a miracle run?

All the questions will be answered at the IEM Cologne Major 2026, starting June 2. Catch the action live on the official ESL channels on YouTube, Twitch, and more. You can also follow the tournament on Strafe, with brackets, match schedules, live scores, and more.
