Harry Kane – The clinical contender

For a player like Harry Kane, it just seems like he’s getting better as he ages. The England striker has 33 goals and 5 assists in 28 Bundesliga matches alone this season. For those who don’t “rate” the German league as much, we should mention that he has 12 goals and 1 assist in 11 Champions League games. In other words, the 32-year old striker is in the form of his life.

The only thing that could limit Kane would be England’s traditionally pragmatic style which is quite different from that of Bayern. It could potentially limit his individual output, especially if they choose to advance cautiously.

Lionel Messi – The living legend

You don’t even need to be a football fanatic to know that Messi is a legend of the sport. He’s a living legend, and he cemented his legacy in that historic 2022 World Cup run where they came out victorious.

Not to mention, Lionel Messi remains the only player to win the Golden Ball twice. He became the first man since Romario in 1994 to pair the Golden Ball with the tournament winner’s trophy in 2022. If he emerges the World Cup 2026 Golden Ball winner, it’ll mean he’ll be the first to win it three times, and also two times consecutively. We could literally watch history unfold right before our eyes.

However, the legend isn’t getting any younger. He’ll clock 39 during the tournaments and that raises questions around his fitness and playing time. He has to be managed carefully as age is already catching up with him.

When we heard that Lamine Yamal was out for the La Liga season, our hearts skipped a bit because we thought the World Cup was included. So, imagine the relief when we found that he’ll be back in time for the tournament. This teenager is a joy to watch, and he’s sensational.

To help his potential for winning the Golden Ball, let’s not forget that Spain are the favorites to win their group and also the tournament. That means Yamal could potentially play more matches than the older contenders. And like we said, more matches means more chances to prove yourself.

Vinicius Junior – Brazil’s protagonist

A few years back, if you were to pick the main man in Brazil’s squad, you’d probably mention Neymar. However, with his injury struggles, it doesn’t look so likely that he has the trust of Carlo Ancelotti. Fortunately, they have another protagonist in Vinicius Junior, a graceful winger to watch. Erling Haaland – The Wildcard

Haaland for Norway is on a different level, and that is insane considering that his club level performance is already unreal. With his country, he literally averages more than a goal per game. That simply means that you expect him to score in every game.

However, football is a team sport and there are questions of whether Norway can actually go far, and that is why we tag him as a wildcard. Even looking at the Group I where the country falls, it isn’t an easy one. They have to compete with the likes of France and Senegal, which are touch opponents if we were being frank. But if they manage to go through, Haaland is surely going to be an unstoppable force against weaker knockout opponents.
