The opening match of the playoffs at the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 saw a thrilling showdown between Team Vitality and Cloud9 in the quarterfinals.

In a stunning display of skill and strategy, Team Vitality emerged victorious with a dominant 2-0 win over Cloud9.

Team Vitality 2-0 Cloud9

The match started on Vitality’s pick of Inferno. The Yellow Hornets had a strong start, but a very impressive T-side from Cloud9 saw them take the lead at 6-3. However, Vitality managed to recover and tie out the half at 6-6. Cloud9 could not replicate the same form on their CT-side.

Being completely overrun by Lotan "Spinx" Giladi, Cloud9 could only muster two CT rounds, as Vitality won the map 13-8.

Cloud9 picked Anubis as the second map, which turned out to be their downfall. Vitality completely chewed through the Boys in Blue on their T-side. Not giving them any room to improve, Vitality ended the first half at a stellar 10-2. This time it was Shahar "flameZ" Shushan who stepped up for Vitality. Making no errors, the Hornets closed out the map on their CT-side at 13-2.

Post-Match Analysis

In a post-match interview with James Banks, flameZ thinks that Vitality has definitely woken up on the server.

“Obviously, we played better. We knew the group stage was a bit off from us. But we also had two sick players, we lacked a lot of energy. And now we can feel the energy. Mathieu is awake, Spinx is awake, Dan gave great calls. And it showed on the server today.”

According to analyst Mathieu "Maniac" Quiquerez, Vitality had a great start on Anubis, and it was a completely different team compared to their group stage performance. With the entire roster showing off their impeccable quality, they are once again in the conversation of tournament favorites.

However, it was a different story for Cloud9. Although Richard Lewis believes that Cloud9 making Top Eight in the Major was something to be proud of, Sudhen "Bleh" Wahengbam had a bit more to add. According to Bleh, this “AWP Roulette” that Cloud9 are playing had virtually zero impact in the game, and that cannot be allowed in a tournament of this level. They need to see the problem after this game, and they need to tweak and make changes accordingly.

Team Vitality keep their back-to-back Major dreams alive, as they move ahead to the Semifinals, where they will face the winner of Team Spirit vs FaZe Clan.

Cloud9 have been eliminated from the PGL Major Copenhagen at 5th-8th place.
