Day 8 of VALORANT Champions 2024 was a tense one, as four teams fought to avoid elimination.

In the end, only Vitality and Paper Rex survived, while Talon Esports and FUT Esports were sent packing.

Team Vitality 2-0 Talon Esports

The day's first match saw Vitality take on Talon Esports in a do-or-die battle. Vitality, known for their meticulous and strategic playstyle, outmaneuvered Talon, taking the series 2-0. Talon struggled to find answers to Vitality's calculated approach, leading to their elimination from the tournament. Talon’s coach, Hector "FrosT" Rosario, shouldered much of the blame for the team's performance.

"I think, in some ways, I'm a bad coach for this team... because, I feel like we can and should have done a better job at this tournament."

With this victory, Vitality earned one more chance to secure a playoff spot. Their next challenge is against the formidable Leviatán, with two-time world champion Erick "aspas" Santos. However, Vitality’s Saif "Sayf" Jibraeel remains unfazed, confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.

"Two world champions means absolutely nothing, considering that it's a new stage and it's a new year. And, you know, anyone can show up,"

Sayf boldly stated, emphasizing that past accolades won't dictate the outcome of this critical match.

Paper Rex 2-0 FUT Esports

The second match of the day featured Paper Rex against FUT Esports. Paper Rex, the Final Bosses of the Pacific region, showcased their dominance with a clean 2-0 sweep. Despite FUT Esports putting up a strong fight, they couldn’t match the firepower and coordination of Paper Rex, leading to their elimination.

Paper Rex now turns their attention to EDward Gaming, the top seed from China. Wang "Jinggg" Jie expressed his excitement for the upcoming matchup, highlighting the history between the two teams.

"We have played against EDG many times and every game is always really close and fun and exciting. I'm really excited to play against EDG again; they are a really good team, and now they have a slight roster change. So, I'm really excited to play against this new roster."

As Vitality and Paper Rex move forward, their resolve will be tested against tough opponents, but for now, they’ve secured another day in VALORANT Champions 2024, while Talon Esports and FUT Esports bid farewell to the tournament.

Team Vitality CEO Neo: "For Us to be a Global Leader Means Being a Contender at EWC"

Team Vitality remains one of the most influential and well-known esports organizations to date. The Paris-based org fields over 20 esports teams in various esports, though their immensely impressive results in Counter-Strike take center stage.  Being one of the organizations present at Esports World Cup 2026 in Paris, we managed to speak with Fabien "Neo" Devide, Co-Founder and CEO of the Hive, just after an interview with Mike McCabe, COO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, at the opening press conference at EWC. Neo provided a ton of insight into the organization's participation at this year's edition of EWC in Paris. He expressed his desire for the org to perform to the highest standards, but also highlighted that rivalry is key to grow the ecosystem. Additionally, Neo gave strong opinions on the growth of mobile esports following last year's Vitality's takeover and merger with Indonesian side Bigetron, stressing the need for innovation and following ideas in the east, as much as the west.
