Champions 2026 Finalist Derke Suffers Shock Qualifier Exit With Aurora Gaming

Aurora Gaming, featuring VALORANT Champions 2026 finalist Nikita "Derke" Sirmitev, have been eliminated from the first European qualifier for VCT EMEA Kickoff 2027. The star-studded VALORANT roster lost 2-1 to BONK on November 6 after blowing an 11-3 lead on the deciding map, ending their run in the round of 32.

Aurora had entered the tournament with high expectations following the arrival of Derke, Boo, trexx, B1SK and chiwa. Their campaign began with four dominant maps, winning 52 rounds while conceding just three.

BONK Complete Comeback From 11-3 Down on Bind

BONK took the opening map on Sunset, but Aurora responded on Lotus to force a decider. On Bind, Aurora appeared to be heading toward victory after building a 9-3 halftime lead and extending it to 11-3.

However, BONK won eight consecutive rounds to tie the score at 11-11. According to VLR.gg's round-by-round match history, Aurora briefly regained the lead at 12-11, but BONK equalized and forced overtime.

BONK then moved ahead 13-12, Aurora answered to make it 13-13, and BONK secured the next two rounds to complete a remarkable 15-13 comeback.

The final series scores were:

• Sunset: BONK 13-9 Aurora Gaming
• Lotus: Aurora Gaming 13-8 BONK
• Bind: BONK 15-13 Aurora Gaming

BONK advanced to the round of 16, while Aurora's first qualification attempt came to an end.

Aurora Had Dominated Their Opening Matches 52-3

On November 5, Aurora swept Kryo Esports and Tantra Blitz 2-0 each, recording four one-sided map victories.

• 13-1 against Kryo Esports on Lotus
• 13-0 against Kryo Esports on Abyss
• 13-1 against Tantra Blitz on Lotus
• 13-1 against Tantra Blitz on Bind

Across their first two series, Aurora outscored their opponents 52-3.

On November 6, Aurora continued their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Enisorail in the round of 64, winning Lotus 13-4 and Summit 13-11. The second map was much closer than Aurora's opening-day matches, but the team still entered the BONK series undefeated.

Derke, Boo and trexx Headline Aurora's Experienced Roster

Aurora entered VALORANT in late October with an ambitious lineup combining internationally accomplished players and experienced competitors from the European scene.

Derke arrived as one of the team's biggest names. The former FNATIC player won VCT LOCK//IN São Paulo and Masters Tokyo in 2023. More recently, he reached the VALORANT Champions 2026 Grand Final with Team Vitality, finishing as runner-up after a 3-1 defeat to LOUD in Shanghai on October 18.

Ričardas "Boo" Lukaševičius brought extensive leadership experience from Team Heretics, where he served as in-game leader. During his time with the organization, Heretics reached the Grand Finals of Masters Shanghai and VALORANT Champions in 2024, finishing second at both events.

Another established name is Nikita "trexx" Cherednichenko, who previously represented Guild Esports, KOI, Team Liquid and Team Vitality. He previously played alongside Derke at Vitality, giving Aurora two players with experience as teammates.

The lineup is completed by Vitaliy "B1SK" Emelyanov and Egor "chiwa" Stepanyuk. Both have competed in VALORANT since 2020. Chiwa previously represented organizations including Ninjas in Pyjamas, EXCEL and Acend.

Aurora Still Have a Possible Path to VCT EMEA Kickoff 2027

The loss to BONK does not eliminate Aurora from every route to VCT EMEA Kickoff 2027. Riot Games has scheduled two European open qualifiers, with the second taking place from November 12 to 15.

Each qualifier sends four teams to the 16-team Europe Qualifier Playoffs, scheduled for November 26 to December 5. Eight invited non-partner teams will join them, with the top two finishers earning places at VCT EMEA Kickoff 2027.

Europe Qualifier #2 remains a possible route for Aurora, although the team has not confirmed whether it will participate.
