The International 2026 is finally about to start, and we will show you everything you need to know about the tournament in our preview article. Take a look to understand how the tournament is organized, which teams are taking part in the event, and when every stage will begin.

The International 2026: Lineup

As usual, we begin with the list of invited and qualified teams. The International 2026 features 16 teams from all over the world fighting for a share of the prize money and the glory of having their names carved into the Aegis of Champions.

The International 2026: Organization

The International 2026 will maintain the renewed format introduced in 2025. This means we will once again have a Group Stage using the Swiss system, best-of-three matches, and an Elimination Round.

During the Swiss Stage, the top three teams are seeded directly into the Playoffs, teams placing from 4th to 13th advance to the Elimination Round, and the remaining teams are eliminated.

The Playoffs will feature the classic double-elimination bracket with best-of-three matches throughout the event and a best-of-five Grand Final to crown The International 2026 champions.

The Group Stage begins on August 13 and runs until August 16, while the Playoffs will take place between August 20 and August 23.

The International 2026: Group Stage Schedule

Swiss stages do not have a complete schedule available in advance because the matchups depend on previous results. Therefore, all we have so far is the schedule for the first round, shown below:

Interesting Matchups

Tournament organizers tend to intentionally avoid marquee matchups in the opening round of major events, and as expected, no blockbuster clashes will take place in the first round of The International 2026 Group Stage.

That said, we still have some interesting matches that could become the highlights of TI 2026's opening day.

Team Falcons vs. LGD Gaming

Team Falcons will begin their title defense against an LGD Gaming roster that may have received a significant boost with the addition of Topson in the mid lane. Recently, we witnessed PlayTime go from a last-minute roster change to the top of the standings. Will LGD Gaming manage to pull off the same trick at The International?

Iron Wing vs. Nigma Galaxy

Iron Wing enters the tournament as one of the strongest rosters of the season against Nigma Galaxy in what might be SumaiL's last International before retiring from professional Dota 2, at least as a player.

Team Spirit vs. Xtreme Gaming

Team Spirit secured their TI slot after Miposhka made a timely return, but their overall level remains uncertain, making this matchup an important early test. Meanwhile, last year's TI runners-up arrive not as favorites but as possible dark horses despite playing on home soil.

Team Liquid vs. Vici Gaming

Team Liquid won a tournament shortly before The International, and Blitz mentioned during a conversation with Cap that the team made a breakthrough that may have finally made everything click.

On the other side, Vici Gaming feels like China's best hope of lifting the Aegis of Champions, although they are not entering the tournament as one of the favorites.

Closing Thoughts

The International 2026 is finally here, and alongside the spectacle of the most anticipated tournament of the year, we also have the implicit promise of new information about the next hero to be released and the future of the ongoing Dark Carnival event.

We do not yet know Valve's plans for this year, but in 2025 Largo was released only in late December, leading many players to wonder whether it would become the first year in which Dota 2 failed to introduce a new hero to the ranks of the Defense of the Ancients.
