Janne "Gorgc" Stefanovski, a well-known streamer and content creator for Dota 2, has successfully advanced to the closed qualifiers for The International 2024 with his team, Team Bald. Although the road was filled with challenges, Team Bald overcame them and won every game in the open qualifier.

The International is the ultimate goal for any DotA 2 player, representing the pinnacle of achievement in the competitive scene. TI 2024 will be held in Copenhagen, starting on September 4th. Although the tournament is still months away, the regional open qualifiers have already begun, with teams worldwide battling for a spot in this prestigious event.

From Streamer to Contender: Gorgc Builds a Dream Team

Gorgc has assembled a strong team named Team Bald, featuring some of the scene's most notable players. The roster includes Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek, who recently left Shopify Rebellion; Martin "Saksa" Sazdov, the winner of TI 2022; Kasra "Mikey" Mesbahx, formerly with Nigma Galaxy; and Elias "Nagato" Alhadj, Mickey’s teammate from Winter Bear back in the day.

Professional Dota 2 vastly differs from public matches, even at high MMR levels. Open qualifiers present unique challenges that can catch even professional teams off guard. In the Western Europe region, there are two slots available through open qualifiers. Each slot sees 16 teams competing for a chance to participate in TI. Team Bald secured victory in four matches, including a 2-0 win in the grand finals against Dandelions.

The final game was exciting, with Saberlight choosing the controversial Facet known as Reverse Reverse Polarity on Magnus. Initially thought to be a meme, SabeRLight- demonstrated its practical uses, and how good this Facet can be. He compared it to Tidehunter's Ravage that can go through (BKB). If you're curious about how to use this Facet effectively, watch game 2 of the grand finals against Dandelions for a masterclass demonstration.

While Team Bald has made a significant first step, their journey to TI has just begun. The Western Europe region is home to some of the world's strongest teams, and the competition ahead is fierce. Although Team Bald has individually talented and skilled players, their drafting and synergy will need further refinement as they progress.
