It was a long day for Gaimin Gladiators in the lower bracket of The Riyadh Masters 2023. Although the team had been to every grand final of this year, their record is under threat. The team has consistently advanced to the grand finals through the upper bracket, where they were triumphant. However, at The Riyadh Masters 2023, Gaimin Gladiators stumbled in their upper bracket opening series against their arch-nemesis, Team Liquid. Even though they have continually bested Team Liquid, Liquid returned the favour at The Riyadh Masters and sent them to a lower bracket. Since then, the Gladiators had been pulling off some sick plays to keep their hopes of getting the perfect season alive.

The Games

In their first lower bracket match, Tundra Esports, the current International champions, made Gaimin bleed. However, they preserved and eliminated the champions from the tournament. Then came the underdogs, Quest Esports.

Gaimin Gladiators Vs Quest Esports

Gaimin once again showed their mortality in their series against Quest Esports. Going into the series, Quest were the heavy underdog. Losing their upper bracket series against Talon Esports, elimination was on the line for both. Fortunately for Gladiators, luck was on their side for the day.

In game 1, Quest Esports brought their best form and dominated Gaimin Gladiators. However, a misfortune high ground attempt completely turns the tides in Gaimin’s favour, giving the game to GG. After game 1, tournament admins did a careful and thorough investigation on Quest’s failed-high-ground-attempt-pause. The match resumed as there was no foul play. Quest Esports tried to shake off their unfortunate defeat in game 2. However, the results from the game must have haunted Quest Esports. Despite dominating the laning stage, they were hesitant, and Gaimin took full advantage of this situation and completely dominated them, eliminating them from the tournament.

Gaimin Gladiators vs BetBoom Team

After the match against Quest Esports, the Gladiators had to play against BetBoom Team. BetBoom Team make GG work hard for their victory. In game 1, despite Gaimin having the lead, BetBoom played methodically and won took the match. However, Gaimin Gladiators strike back hard in game 2 with their Medusa draft to even the series. At the deciding game 3, a marvellous wombo-combo from Gaimin Gladiators assured them the series and eliminated BetBoom Team.

However, even though Gaimin Gladiators won their series for today, they are not out of the woods just yet. They will need to win two more series to make it to the grand finals of The Riyadh Masters 2023.
