Dota 2 patch 7.35 is here and there is a lot to unpack. Items have been reworked, heroes rebalanced, neutral drops reshuffled, and.... trees have been removed, seriously.

Among the many changes to the patch are the addition of two new items, Khanda and Parasma. The new additions are expensive late-game options for heroes.

But what do they do? who should buy them? and are they worth getting at all?

We're gonna have an in-depth look at both to help you decide whether or not to get Khanda and Parasma the next time you're stomping pubs.

Everything you need to know about Khanda

Clinkz is great with Khanda.
Probably the best user of Khanda for now (Credit: Valve).

  • Requires Crystalys (2000), Phylactery (2400) and a 600g recipe. Total cost: 5000
  • Provides +50 Damage, +200 Health, +200 Mana and +8 All Attributes
  • Passive: Critical Strike. 30% chance to deal 160% critical damage on attacks
  • Passive: Empower Spell. The spell is similar to Phylactery's passive, but bonus damage is rescaled from flat 100 to 100 + 75% of your attack damage

Named after a real-life blade in Sikh culture, Khanda is an interesting item because it fills a rare niche in Dota 2, that of the right-clicking mage.

Most intelligence heroes in the game use their spells to deal damage, they throw the occasional right click but it's mostly an afterthought and a small part of their overall damage output.

Since the introduction of Witch Blade though, that's changed and we saw the rise of Puck, Queen of Pain, and other intelligence heroes using their auto-attacks to bring people down.

Khanda aims to provide another option for intelligence right-clickers and it has some decent stats overall. More health is always good and an extra eight to all stats is also useful.

Figuring out who can use both Phylactery and Crystalys is the tough part. Puck for example would love to hit harder but lacks a single target spell to make use of Empower Spell.

The item is also fairly pricey, which means we won't see it in a lot of games, so it will take time for the best candidates to appear. I think the item is slightly too expensive for what it does to be worth buying right now.

If you must try it out though, then the heroes we recommend are Clinkz, Medusa, and Storm Spirit. All of them benefit from the stats, extra right-click damage, and have a single target spell with a low cooldown.

Everything you need to know about Parasma

Storm Spirit is rocking it as the strongest Dota 2 heroes midlaner.
Wait, this guy got picked? (Credit: Valve)

  • Requires Witch Blade (2775) and Mystic Staff (2800). Total cost: 5575
  • Provides +45 Intelligence, +40 Attack Speed, +8 Armor and +300 Attack Projectile Speed
  • Passive: Magic Corruption. All your attacks apply a -20% Magic Resistance debuff on enemies for 4s
  • Passive: Witch Blade. The spell is similar to Witch Blade's passive, but Intelligence Multiplier is increased from 0.75x to 1x and Cooldown is decreased from 9s to 7s

Parasma is named after.... well to be frank I don't think it's named after anything, oh well.

Another item built for intelligent right-clickers, Parasma is looking like the better of the two options introduced in Dota 2 patch 7.35.

Firstly let's look at the stats, 45 intelligence is huge. That's 45 damage for int heroes along with infinite mana (sort of). The 40 attack speed is much appreciated as well.

Since this item is built for heroes who wish to right click, they will occasionally be punched back and eight armor is excellent for mitigating that. Extra projectile speed is nice but mostly a non-factor.

Overall, I'd say Parasma's stats are far more useful than Khanda.

Magic Corruption is a useful passive, as it helps all allies deal more damage with their spells. I also like the upgrade to Witch Blade's passive, dealing more damage on a shorter cooldown.

Parasma is more expensive but it's much easier to use, as players can simply wail on enemies without worrying about using single target spells to maximize the benefit of the item.

The best users of Parasma are Puck, Silencer (thanks to the change to Glaives), Queen of Pain, Storm Spirit, and Viper. We feel this is a very versatile item that can work on most intelligence heroes and even some non-int options.

We like the new items, they fill a small niche and we expect to see certain heroes pushed into a core role because of their synergy with Khanda and Parasma. Till then, happy grinding!
