Since its launch in 2009, League of Legends has released more than 2,000 skins for over 170 champions. As the game and its player base continue to grow, Riot Games continues to introduce new skin lines and universes, giving players more ways to express themselves in-game.

Quick-Stats Summary

  • Miss Fortune is the champion with the most skins in League of Legends, with 23 skins released so far.
  • Her most recent skin is MVP T1 Miss Fortune, which was released on July 15, 2026.

What are League of Legends Skins?

League of Legends skins are cosmetic items that let you change how your favorite champions look in-game. From simple recolors to fully reimagined designs with unique animations, voice lines, and effects, skins give players a way to personalize their champions without affecting the gameplay.

How Many League of Legends Skins Are There?

The game boasts an impressive total of 2,131 skins. From eye-catching champion makeovers to breathtaking visual effects, League of Legends skins bring a fresh and unique touch to the game. Each skin tells a unique story, with detailed designs and animations that immerse you in the virtual world.

How Do Skins Work?

League of Legends skins are purely cosmetic and don't change a champion's stats, abilities, or overall gameplay. They can, however, change a champion's model, animations, visual effects, sounds, and voice lines.

Which Champions Have the Fewest Skins?

As of the current 2026 data, Locke and Zaahen are among the champions with the fewest skins. They currently have only one skin each.

Ambessa, Smolder, and Yunara are also near the bottom with two skins each.

Locke is particularly easy to explain because he is the newest champion. Released in June 2026, he launched alongside High Noon Locke, meaning he currently has only one purchasable skin beyond his default appearance.

Zaahen is also a relatively recent addition, which explains his small collection.

Having few skins doesn't necessarily mean Riot Games is neglecting a champion. Newer champions simply have not had as much time to build up a collection as champions that have been in League for more than a decade.

Which League of Legends Champions Have Never Received a Skin?

There are currently no League of Legends champions without a skin when launch skins are included. Most champions are released with a new skin, giving players a cosmetic option to use from the moment they become available.

Which Skin Lines Have the Most Champions?

Several of League of Legends' long-running universes have featured large numbers of champions.

  • Star Guardian: One of Riot's biggest recurring skin universes, having expanded across multiple releases. The original group included champions such as Ahri, Ezreal, Janna, Jinx, Lulu, Lux, Miss Fortune, Poppy, Soraka, and Syndra, with later waves adding champions including Xayah, Rakan, Zoe, Akali, Kai'Sa, Orianna, Senna, Seraphine, and Sona.
  • High Noon: Another huge skin universe. Its roster now spans a large portion of the champion pool, including Ashe, Caitlyn, Darius, Evelynn, Jhin, Katarina, Leona, Lucian, Miss Fortune, Mordekaiser, Samira, Senna, Thresh, Twisted Fate, Urgot, Varus, Yasuo and Yone, among others. The theme has also continued expanding in 2026, with High Noon Akshan and High Noon Locke released in Patch 26.13.
  • Spirit Blossom: This skin line has also become one of League's major recurring themes. Riot has used it for multiple large releases, including champions such as Ahri, Kindred, Lillia, Riven, Sett, Syndra, Teemo, Thresh, Tristana, Yasuo, and Yone, with another major expansion in 2025.
  • PROJECT: This is another long-running universe worth mentioning, particularly because it has repeatedly returned with large champion groups. First introduced in 2015, the futuristic theme has featured champions such as Yasuo, Zed, Fiora, Lucian, Vayne, Jhin, Ekko, Irelia, Pyke, Akali, Senna, Renekton, Mordekaiser, Sylas, Varus, and Naafiri across multiple releases.

How Often Does Riot Release New Champion Skins?

Riot Games has explained that its skin cooldown system considers factors such as a champion’s pick rate, play rate, and previous skin sales. More popular champions generally have shorter cooldowns between skins.

At the same time, they have acknowledged the importance of creating skins for less-played champions while continuing to support those with higher play rates.

However, Riot Games doesn't simply put every champion into every skin line. The team considers whether a champion's personality, silhouette, abilities, and fantasy fit the universe. Thematic fit is a major consideration when selecting champions for skins.

More elaborate skins take more resources. Legendary skins require significantly more development work than Epic skins, which influences which champions are selected.
