On 20th June 2020, Riot Games released their tactical hero-fps Valorant. Soon after the launch, the game garnered immense popularity and since has been one of the biggest esports and one of the most streamed games on Twitch. Currently, Valorant has 17M active players for the month of October with 4.6M peak players on 28th October, 2023.

With the success of their PC game, Since 2021, Riot Games has been looking to port the game to other platforms including Mobile and Console. The status on the console version is still unknown but the mobile version's closed beta testing has been in full force.

Valorant Mobile - A visionary project:

The news of Valorant Mobile’s closed beta testing started making rounds in June 2022. Riot games is developing the game along with Tencent who are not only Riot's parent company but also a well-known mobile game publisher.

Tencent has been a leading mobile game publisher. The company is known for porting Krafton’s PUBG to the mobile platform. The game saw a peak of 60M daily active players and has been one of the most successful games. The upcoming PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2023 has a prize pool of $3M.

With Tencent’s experience with an FPS, Valorant Mobile has a great developer team supporting the game’s porting. The experience will come in handy to support the challenges that’d come with the development.

Additionally, Valorant Mobile will be one of a kind as there are no 5v5 tactical FPS officially ported to Mobile. Valorant Mobile might just be a bigger phenomenon in the Mobile industry.

Current Status on the development:

The biggest challenge in porting Valorant to mobile has to be the challenge with integrating abilities with the already existing movement keys. With the biggest challenge behind, Valorant Mobile is currently in the closed beta testing phase. The game is being tested in China.

The YouTuber AnakinGG has been posting the gameplay of various agents in the closed beta environment. The mobile version has not only integrated the Valorant agents with mobile gameplay, it has also integrated mobile exclusive features like Gyro mode that’d help the players control recoil effectively.

With the regular gameplay, the mobile version will also feature MVP animations, replay and highlights system on launch. The replay feature is one of the most sought after features of Valorant.

With the closed beta successfully concluding, Riot plans to move forward with a Open Beta launch. The Open beta launch will test the game for its scalability and the servers and the game’s ability to handle multiple players playing the game at the same time.

Valorant Mobile release date:

Valorant has successfully entered the closed beta since September 2023, it looks almost ready for launch. The game already has multiple modes including Replication, Deathmatch, Unrated and Ranked.

The testing for Valorant Mobile is currently tested on Android and Riot will have to work with Apple to bring the game to iOS once it is thoroughly tested. The transition will hopefully be smooth as Tencent has experience with porting the games to iOS.

With the game already on a fast lane on testing, it won’t be a surprise if Riot announces the Open Beta test of Valorant Mobile as soon as December 2023. The previous projected release date was Q1 2024 which is not too far away.

It is unlikely the game launches Q1, 2024. But with the closed beta testing on its final stages, the game will positively release early or mid Q2, 2024.

With Riot’s success with Valorant on PC, the mobile version is sure to be a big hit. Moreover, as mentioned earlier, Valorant Mobile is one of its kind and if developed perfectly, has the potential to surpass its PC counterpart.
