T1 Qualify for 2026 MSI Bracket Stage After Flawless Play-Ins Run
To the surprise of very few, T1 are through to the League of Legends 2026 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) Bracket Stage after blasting through their Play-Ins opposition. T1 secured their spot after a spotless Play-Ins run, not dropping a single game throughout.
T1 Qualify for 2026 MSI Bracket Stage
With Team Liquid securing their sought-after rematch against the LCK #2 seed, T1, expectations were especially high for the North American side to draw blood. The NA-EU clash yesterday ended in a brutal decimation from the side of Liquid, taking down the French giants 3-0.
The last time Liquid played against T1, they were able to secure a 6k-gold lead in Game 2. While the former couldn’t close, they remain the only team in this entire Play-Ins bracket that has looked remotely competitive against T1. So, coming into today’s game, the thought process was: it could be close; Liquid could take a game.
A Step Above Their Opposition
T1’s macro superiority was on full display this series as they constantly kept Liquid on the back foot with swaps and cancels. Liquid still managed to keep it competitive, but the small advantages T1 had built up paid off towards the end each time.
Individual heroics for Liquid was especially notable to maintain the gap, with Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung in particular putting in an immense shift to power Liquid and make the series as ‘close’ as it was.
While the final game was competitive, ultimately, T1 were just a mark above in both macro and teamfighting throughout. The biggest difference maker this time around was most certainly Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, whose performance against his lane counterpart Park “Morgan” Ru-han was a big decider in Games 1 and 2 in particular.
Play-Ins Fall Flat — Where is the Resistance?
The story of the 2026 MSI Play-Ins stage was that, despite all series receiving the Bo5 format, every single series played was a clean 3-0 sweep. All through the 4 days of play thus far at MSI, it has been nothing but straightforward victories, and today’s finals proved no different.
The sole exception was probably Team Liquid and T1, who were a cut above the rest, and then T1 was a cut above Team Liquid. Karmine Corp flopped, badly. Not taking a single game off T1 or Team Liquid is not good enough for a team supposedly contending for international trophies this year.
MSI Bracket Stage Up Next: Final 8 Teams
T1's qualification completes the final 8 teams in the Bracket Stage. Bilibili Gaming await T1 as their first matchup of the Upper Bracket. Meanwhile, domestic rivals Hanwha Life Esports lurk on the other end of the bracket.
The conclusion of MSI 2026 will not just crown a new international champion, but also offer our first official look at the much-anticipated game mode — League Classic. Which region will emerge triumphant? Will G2 surge ahead again? Will BLG complete another part of their Golden Road? Or is this the year for HLE or T1 to claim a long-missing MSI title?
