LCP Promotion
Overview
The LCP Promotion (also known as the LCP Promotion Series or P&R) is the annual qualification and relegation tournament for the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP), the top-tier professional League of Legends league for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Organized by Riot Games (with operational support historically linked to Carry International for the broader LCP), it determines which guest teams retain or earn spots in the LCP for the following season.
The series sits below the S-tier LCP proper and functions as a key pathway connecting domestic Tier-2 leagues—including the Pacific Championship Series (PCS), Vietnam Championship Series (VCS), League of Legends Japan League (LJL), FLASH Oceania (FLS), and Wild Card regions—to the regional top flight. It is typically classified as a lower-tier (D/A-tier depending on the stage) event focused on qualification rather than large cash prizes. The 2027 edition (held in late 2026) marks a transitional year ahead of major structural changes opening LCP qualification more broadly each split.

History
The LCP itself launched for the 2025 season following its announcement on 29–30 September 2024, consolidating the former PCS, VCS, LJL, and other APAC circuits into a hybrid franchise/guest model with three permanent partner teams and five relegatable guest teams. The Promotion tournament was introduced as the mechanism for guest-team relegation and promotion at season’s end.
The first edition, LCP 2026 Promotion, took place 1–4 October 2025 at the LCP Arena in Taipei, Taiwan. It featured seven teams and produced two qualifiers for the 2026 LCP season: Deep Cross Gaming (via Free-for-All) and Vikings Esports (via Regional Merit).
A second cycle followed the 2026 LCP season (dominated by Team Secret Whales, who swept all three splits). The LCP 2027 Promotion is scheduled for 10–13 November 2026. In September 2026, Riot announced a major overhaul for the 2027 LCP season itself: teams would primarily compete in domestic leagues (PCS, VCS, LJL) each split, with top performers advancing to an LCP bracket stage that remains the sole APAC path to international events. Wild Card routes would continue. The 2027 Promotion thus serves as the final traditional P&R under the prior model while securing Regional Global Revenue Pool (GRP) shares for successful teams.
Preceding stages, such as Wild Card Playoffs, have evolved (online double-elimination formats with small prize pools).
Format
The current edition—LCP 2027 Promotion—runs offline from 2026-11-10 to 2026-11-13 at the VPS Arena in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (first time hosted there; partners include VPStudio/VPS, ROG, and Bánh Mì PewPew). It features 7 teams and uses a dual-path single-elimination structure with all matches Best-of-5 (Bo5) under Fearless Draft rules. No cash prize pool is listed; the sole rewards are two LCP 2027 team slots (plus associated Regional GRP support).
- Regional Merit path: One LCP guest team (Ground Zero Gaming) faces the designated domestic champion (FRANK Esports, PCS) in a single Bo5. Winner qualifies for LCP 2027; loser returns to domestic play.
- Free-for-All (FFA) path: The remaining four challengers (Saigon Warriors/VCS, FENNEL/LJL, Team Gromp/FLS Oceania winner, Nothin’Here/Wild Card Playoffs winner) compete in a single-elimination Bo5 bracket. The survivor then faces the second LCP guest (DetonatioN FocusMe) in a Bo5 final for the second LCP 2027 slot.
LCP guest teams wait for path winners. Relegation rules prioritize lowest-performing guests (Worlds-qualified guests exempt); academy teams are ineligible. A preceding LCP 2027 Promotion – Wild Card Playoffs (online, 2026-10-10 to 2026-10-13, double-elimination Bo5, 4 teams, $5,000 USD prize pool) crowned Nothin’Here ($2,000) as the Wild Card representative.
Notable Editions
The inaugural 2026 Promotion (October 2025, Taipei) established the dual-path model and saw Taiwan’s Deep Cross Gaming dominate the FFA while Vietnam’s Vikings Esports claimed the Regional Merit slot over Saigon Dino. It integrated the first full set of domestic and Wild Card challengers (including Inferno Esports as Wild Card winner and Saving OCE).
The 2027 edition is notable as the first hosted in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) and the last under the original centralized guest model before the 2027 open domestic-to-LCP pathway. It carries elevated stakes due to GRP implications amid the ecosystem shift. The accompanying Wild Card Playoffs delivered competitive double-elim action won by Thailand’s Nothin’Here.

Viewership & Impact
Specific peak/average concurrent viewers for Promotion events are not widely published in public trackers, reflecting their qualification-focused, lower-tier status relative to main LCP splits (which have recorded peaks near 500,000 for 2025 Mid-Season Finals). Broadcasts occur on official multi-language platforms: English Twitch (twitch.tv/lolpacificen) and YouTube (@lolpacificen), plus Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Thai, and other regional streams. Tickets for the 2027 edition LAN were sold via Ticketbox.vn.
Culturally, the series underpins LCP competitiveness and APAC depth, enabling underdog stories from Wild Card and domestic scenes while linking to international qualification (Worlds/MSI). The 2027 format shift aims to reduce relocation costs, improve player welfare and local fan engagement, and broaden access—potentially increasing overall ecosystem viewership and sustainability after the LCP’s strong early international results (e.g., CTBC Flying Oyster Worlds 2025 quarterfinals). Successful Promotion teams gain direct Regional GRP shares, providing financial stability.
The event reinforces Riot’s hybrid franchise model in APAC and remains the critical gateway for non-partner organizations.
