The Superdome 2023: Columbia concluded over the week. The Coliseo Live Bogotá, Columbia hosted the LAN event featuring four competitors in Cloud9, FURIA, KRU Esports and Leviatan. The event debuted FURIA, KRU and Leviatan’s new rosters.

Leviatan and KRU played each other in a showmatch previously, but Superdome 2023 was their first tournament playing in.

Superdome 2023 Upper Semifinals

The four teams featured in the competition took on each other in a double-elimination bracket. The first set of fixtures saw KRU Esports taking on Leviatan followed by Cloud9 taking on FURIA.

Tacolilla and Axeddy stood in for KRU’s Klaus and Melser. The first game of the tournament saw Leviatan dominating KRU with stand-ins. Leviatan took down KRU Esports on Lotus and Breeze with scores of 13-4 and 13-3.

FURIA and Cloud9 had a closer game compared to the previous fixture. The brawl started on Breeze with FURIA securing a strong 8-4 lead in the first half. They closed it out comfortably in the second half with a 13-7 score.

Cloud9 answered back on Sunset with a dominant 13-4 scoreline, forcing a third map. Sunset’s momentum catapulted Cloud9 to a 9-3 lead in the first half of the final map. They converted their strong lead into a solid win, securing Upper Finals.

Superdome 2023 Upper final

The Leviatan - Cloud9 brawl started with an evenly matched bout in the first half of Haven. In the second half though, Leviatan’s attack pulled ahead, only dropping a single round before closing the map 13-7.

Split was not nearly as close, the double-duelist attack of Leviatan secured them an amazing lead in the first half. Leviatan comfortably closed it out in the second half and secured the grand finals.

Superdome 2023 Lower Rounds

The first elimination game of Superdome 2023 Columbia featured FURIA and KRU. KRU with substitutes continued to struggle in the game. FURIA’s new squad secured a strong lead to secure the first half of the elimination game. They comfortably closed the first map 13-5.

KRU secured a dominant 8-4 half in the first half, but FURIA dominated the second half to secure the Lower finals against Cloud9.

FURIA carried forward their momentum from their previous encounter and dominated Lotus against Cloud9. They closed the first half 8-4, and comfortably secured the lead. The dominance continued on Breeze as FURIA closed the map 13-2 and the series 2-0. With the win, Leviatan secured the Grand Finals against Leviatan.

Superdome 2023 Grand Finals:

The two competitors in the Grand Final have led two distinctly different paths to the final stage. On one hand, Leviatan dominated all their competition, FURIA dropped to the lower bracket and clawed their way back to the top.

FURIA started the game well, securing a strong first half, but Leviatan’s attack led by Nzr and Aspas helped them secure the first map. Leviatan’s momentum helped them in the second map. Leviatan started the map strong and secured a strong 9-3 half on Split. FURIA secured a good start but could not comeback losing the second map.

With their backs against the wall, FURIA hit back hard securing a strong 8-4 half. Leviatan answered back in the second half securing eight rounds in a row to secure the Grand Finals.

What did we learn from Superdome 2023?

Leviatan’s new team looks amazing. Tex and Aspas are integrating well with the squad and Leviatan as a team looks poised to be amongst the top VCT Americas teams. The Grand Final win definitely helps the team with confidence.

FURIA themselves had an amazing run, the new team came back from a lower bracket, to secure grand finals. KRU on the other hand need to work hard before the games starts, while they are also playing with subs, it will be interesting to see how the main team performs.

Hopefully, all these teams continue their good form and we see a closely contested VCT Americas Kick/off tournament in VCT 2024.
