After numerous rumors and speculations, Paper Rex Valorant finally announced the addition of Cahya "Monyet" Nugraha for the upcoming VCT 2024 season. Monyet will replace Jinggg who has to leave the team for his mandatory military service. With his experience as a Duelist for ONIC G and Controller on Global Esports, Monyet will be a perfect fit in Paper Rex.

The Legend of Paper Rex Valorant

Starting their Valorant journey in 2021, Paper Rex quickly rose to the top of APAC Valorant. Especially with Jinggg in the mix, Paper Rex quickly became the one of the best Valorant team's in the world. In 2022, with the Jinggg - f0rsaken duo, Paper Rex dominated APAC. At the international stage, they had some great runs, even finishing second at VCT Masters Copenhagen, highest by an Asian team.  Unfortunately, the team failed to secure a trophy.

In 2023, Paper Rex conquered DRX and secured top 3 finish at Tokyo and secured Valorant Champions 2023 Grand Finals. They fell short at the Grand Finals but still finished 2023 as the third best team in the world. Unfortunately during the Valorant Champions, it was announced that Jinggg has to attend his mandatory military service in 2024. With Jinggg missing the VCT 2024, Paper Rex needed someone of similar potential to take Jinggg’s place.

Monyet’s Valorant journey:

Monyet was a duelist for ONIC G but remained a hidden gem, absent from the international stage. Global Esports scouted Monyet in 2022 for their VCT 2023 Pacific team. With seven players on the roster, GES tried multiple permutations and combinations of the seven players, finalizing on Monyet, SkRossi, t3xture, Ayrin and Bazzi.

Out of the five players, Monyet definitely had the hardest adjustment period. The youngster played Duelists in his previous team and had to switch to a controller. After a brief adjustment period Monyet started to come in his own as a role player. On the big stage, Monyet often showed creative utilisation of the agent abilities he played. Despite not starting as a Controller, he quickly became the one of the best controllers in VCT Pacific. During the year, he also set the record for most kills on a single map in an International event.

Throughout the year, Monyet and Global Esports displayed some amazing Valorant. But despite the team’s efforts, they could not achieve a significant outcome. After the unsatisfactory results, GES decided to rebuild the squad, letting go of Ayrin and t3xture. Yesterday, GES also announced the departure of Monyet from the squad.

The new Paper Rex Valorant:

Paper Rex’s new fifth had to be a player capable of not just being the best aimer but also someone who would be flexible in multiple roles. It was rumored and reported that Paper Rex will pick up monyet and have made arrangements with Global Esports for the same. Paper Rex twitter teased the announcement yesterday. Today, the organization finally announced the addition of Monyet to the roster.

With his prior experience as a duelist for ONIC G, Monyet will be a perfect replacement for Jinggg. Especially during his time on Global Esports, Monyet established himself as a mechanically gifted and a smart role player. This ability of Monyet to flex on duelists and controllers will definitely be utilized by Paper Rex and coach Alecks.

With Monyet in the squad, Paper Rex Valorant squad for 2024 will be as follows:
  • Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee
  • Jason “f0rsaken” Susanto
  • Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart
  • Ilya “something” Petrov
  • Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha [NEW] (prev. Global Esports)
  • Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie (Leaving for Mandatory military service)
  • Alexandre "alecks" Salle (Head Coach)
