Gen.G Becomes Second Team to Qualify for Worlds 2026 Playoffs

Gen.G has become the second team to qualify for the Worlds 2026 playoffs. On Sunday, October 25, the South Korean team came from behind to beat LYON 2-1, securing its place in the quarterfinals of the League of Legends World Championship.

With the result, Gen.G finished the Swiss Stage with a 3-0 series record. Before facing LYON, the team had beaten Invictus Gaming in its opening match and Hanwha Life Esports in Round 2. Dplus KIA had become the first team to qualify earlier in the day after defeating Movistar KOI 2-0.

How Did Gen.G Come Back Against LYON?

LYON took the lead by winning Game 1 in 35 minutes and 49 seconds, recording ten kills to Gen.G's four.

Gen.G tied the series in Game 2, winning in 26 minutes and 36 seconds with 16 kills to nine. Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk played Ashe and finished 7/2/7.

In the deciding game, Gen.G secured 15 kills to LYON's seven, winning in 31 minutes and 59 seconds. Ruler finished 5/2/7 on Ezreal, while Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon recorded 4/2/4 on Galio, completing the 2-1 comeback.

Can LYON Still Qualify for the Playoffs?

LYON has not been eliminated from Worlds 2026. The North American team now holds a 2-1 record in the Swiss Stage and needs just one more best-of-three (Bo3) series win to reach the quarterfinals.

If LYON loses its next series, it will fall to 2-2 and have one final chance to qualify in Round 5. Its next opponent will be determined by the draw.
