After failing to qualify for the playoffs at Worlds 2026, roster changes at G2 Esports' League of Legends department seemed inevitable. However, the departure of head coach Luka "Perkz" Perković came sooner than expected, following controversial online remarks that led the organization to terminate his contract.

Why Was Perkz Kicked by G2? The Controversial Comments

On November 4, Perkz posted on X beginning with the words "A tweet bomb is ready," but few could have anticipated the reaction it would generate.

The G2 Esports League of Legends head coach used the long post to reflect on his career, his transition into coaching, and the team's disappointing performance at Worlds 2026.

However, it was the section addressing his personal beliefs that sparked the most controversy online, particularly his comments on politics and abortion.

Perkz also discussed his past relationship with Carlos "ocelote" Rodríguez Santiago, his contact with the Tate brothers, and his commitment to the Catholic faith.

"There are some things I stand for, very simple things in life, but the only thing that is unshakeable for me, despite how widely accepted it is in public, is abortion. I cannot comprehend how people do not understand that it is murder, as life is created at conception. That is one view I will die by and never change.”

G2 Terminates Perkz's Contract

Perkz's remarks quickly sparked backlash on social media, with many fans expressing their disappointment, particularly given G2 Esports' large female fanbase. Some called on the organization to cut ties with the player.

Several prominent figures from the League of Legends scene also weighed in on the controversy. Among them was Laure "Bulii" Valée, who encouraged other women not to feel ashamed of a decision that is "deeply and rightfully yours."

The growing backlash online prompted G2 CEO Alban Dechelotte to address the situation publicly. In the statement, the organization made it clear that Perkz's comments "do not align with G2's stance and values."

They also acknowledged that his remarks had "hurt many fans" and apologized for the impact they had caused. As a result, G2 decided to terminate Perkz's contract.

"Last night, like many of you, we saw the statement shared by the Head Coach of one of our teams.

G2 is a diverse and international organization with different people from all around the world. While the world is complex and not everyone agrees on everything, some of the statements made last night do not align with G2's stance and values.

We have fans with different cultures and personal opinions, and it is of the utmost importance to us as an organisation that we respect and uphold this diversity when representing G2. We acknowledge that this statement hurt many of our fans, and we want to apologize for it."

As a result, we have decided to terminate our collaboration with the individual. We will now focus on rebuilding our staff and roster for the next season and ask for your patience, as we will not be able to communicate any changes until free agency officially opens."

What's Next for G2 Esports?

As mentioned in their statement, G2 will now look for new additions to its coaching staff and roster during the off-season. With the transfer market opening after Worlds, it remains to be seen who will step in to represent the organization next season.

For now, reports indicate that Linas "Lyncas" Nauncikas is set to become G2's new jungler, though negotiations are still ongoing behind the scenes.
