G2 Esports Reportedly Set to Replace SkewMond for 2027 LEC Season
G2 Esports reportedly plans to replace jungler Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan in its starting lineup for the 2027 season, just days after the team's early exit from the League of Legends World Championship. The move would end the French-Lebanese player's two-year run as G2's starter, during which he won four LEC titles, despite his contract running until 2028.
According to a November 4 report by Brieuc “LEC Wooloo” Seeger and colleagues at Sheep Esports, G2 has decided to make a change in the jungle for 2027. SkewMond remains under contract until November 20, 2028, and the organization reportedly wants a buyout fee rather than releasing him for free. Neither his next destination nor his replacement at G2 has been confirmed.
From BDS Academy to Four LEC Titles With G2
SkewMond joined G2 in December 2024, ahead of the 2025 LEC season, replacing Martin “Yike” Sundelin after a successful spell with Team BDS Academy. He had helped the academy side win the 2024 Summer EMEA Masters, but his first year in the LEC began with consecutive runner-up finishes in Winter and Spring.
His breakthrough came in Summer 2025, when G2 defeated Movistar KOI 3-0 in the final to secure SkewMond's first LEC title. The team then reached the Worlds 2025 quarterfinals, where it lost 3-1 to Top Esports.
G2 kept the same starting roster for 2026 and went on to win LEC Versus, Spring and Summer, giving SkewMond four domestic titles across his two seasons. He was also named Spring Finals MVP, while the Summer title came with another convincing 3-0 victory over Movistar KOI.
G2's International Highs End in Worlds 2026 Disappointment
The team's strongest international run of 2026 came at First Stand. G2 swept Gen.G 3-0 in the semifinals, with SkewMond earning series MVP honors, to reach the organization's first international final since 2019. However, G2 fell 3-1 to Bilibili Gaming in the title match.
G2 subsequently finished fourth at MSI 2026, where it eliminated T1 with a 3-1 victory before suffering a 3-0 defeat to LYON.
Those results made the team's Worlds campaign an especially frustrating finish to the season. G2 arrived as EMEA's top seed but lost its opening match to Dplus KIA. A victory over Brazil's LOS was followed by another defeat to Top Esports, leaving G2 facing elimination against Hanwha Life Esports on October 30.
Hanwha Life won the series 2-0, eliminating G2 from the Swiss Stage with a 1-3 record. Unlike in 2025, the European champions failed to reach the knockout stage. Following the elimination, G2 general manager Romain Bigeard described the moment as “the end of a two-year adventure” and indicated that the organization was turning its attention to the offseason.
Who Could Replace SkewMond, and Where Might He Go?
No replacement has been confirmed, and there is no reported agreement between G2 and another jungler. Sheep Esports identifies Yike, the player SkewMond originally replaced, and Linas “Lyncas” Nauncikas as potential options on the market. The outlet also raises the possibility of G2 recruiting from Europe's regional leagues, although none of these possibilities has been reported as an active negotiation.
As for SkewMond, there is no reported agreement or confirmed destination at this stage. Several LEC teams are expected to consider changes in the jungle ahead of 2027, but any transfer would also depend on G2's willingness to negotiate a buyout for a player still under contract through 2028.
