FLY Bwipo thinks one historic team still stands in their way.

Team Liquid has just come off completing the first undefeated season in the history of the LCS. Inevitably, questions surround the team in comparison to the other historic greats from the region.

Strafe Esports had the chance to talk to FLY Bwipo for an exclusive interview, in which he was able to give his thoughts on what the greatest team in the history of the LCS might have been.

Almost there for Team Liquid

When asked if this Team Liquid was the best team the LCS has ever seen, Bwipo thinks the team definitely has what it takes.

"Yeah, I think they’re up there."

And yet, there's still one historic iteration of Team Liquid that may still stand a touch above the current roster in Bwipo's view.

"I didn’t play MSI 2019, so I didn’t get a feeling for their highs. I wasn’t there when they competed for an MSI Championship. That’s when they were top 2 in the World. Now they played MSI and they were top 4.

But yeah, that’s basically my opinion, I basically see them being up there. The question really just is ‘was that 2019 variant at MSI better than their current form?’ That’s how I’d compare it. 2024 MSI vs 2019 MSI."

It is worth remembering that said 2019 Team Liquid roster managed to convincingly beat the number 1 Chinese team at the time, Invictus Gaming, to make it to the grand finals at the Mid Season Invitational of that year.

Now, perhaps Team Liquid needs just one more strong international performance before they can be crowned the best team in LCS history.

"Before I can say that this iteration of this roster is better than the one from 2019, they would have to have a similar performance at the World Championship. Obviously, we got to watch the EWC, so there’s an extra bit of international play there that makes me a little more biased towards this year’s Team Liquid.

But once they play the World Championship, which I’m sure they’re gonna do great at, I do think they’re a great team, I think I will be able to say with confidence they are the best team that Team Liquid has put up. But you never know, sometimes the World Championship just doesn’t go your way."

Team Liquid recently finished the LCS Summer Season in first place with a flawless 7-0 record, which means the team only needs to win one best-of-5 series in the upcoming LCS Championship in order to qualify for the 2024 League of Legends World Championship.
