MOUZ to face G2 Esports at BLAST Open Spring 2025 Quarterfinals

The Group Stage of BLAST Open Spring 2025 has wrapped up, with only six teams emerging from the 16 that started the event. Now, the tournament moves to the MEO Arena in Lisbon, where the quarterfinal matchups will determine who will join the top two teams already waiting in the semifinals.

The first quarterfinal features a highly anticipated rematch between MOUZ and G2 Esports, scheduled for March 28 at 4:30 p.m. CET. MOUZ secured a 2-1 victory in the ESL Pro League Season 21 quarterfinals, and now, G2 Esports has a chance for redemption. Will history repeat itself, or will they turn things around?

MOUZ: On a Hot Streak

MOUZ has been in incredible form this season. Despite experiencing a period of instability following an IGL change, they have managed to bounce back stronger than ever. Under the leadership of Ludvig "Brollan" Brolin, the team has already claimed a trophy this year and secured a runner-up finish at EPL Season 21, falling only to the seemingly unstoppable Team Vitality.

Their Group Stage performance at BLAST Open Spring was equally impressive, as they navigated the stacked Group A, finishing second to Vitality once again. Their victories showcased strong individual performances across the board, with Ádám "torzsi" Torzsás and Dorian "xertioN" Berman standing out as the team's key fraggers.

Even Brollan, typically more focused on his IGL duties, has been putting up impactful numbers, securing crucial rounds for his team. If he continues to find success individually, MOUZ will be an even tougher opponent to beat.

However, one area of concern is the performance of Jimi "Jimpphat" Salo. The young rifler had a shaky run at EPL, often struggling in key situations. That said, his Group Stage performances at BLAST Open Spring have shown signs of improvement, and if he continues to regain his confidence, MOUZ will be an even more formidable force heading into the playoffs.

G2 Esports: Struggling to Find Stability

G2's performance this season has been far from their expectations. The international roster has struggled with consistency, and while they have managed to reach the playoffs, their recent performances have been far from convincing.

After finishing 9th-12th at IEM Katowice and securing a top-eight finish at EPL, it’s clear that this squad has yet to reach maximum potential. While they clinched third place in their group, their journey so far has been full of ups and downs.

Despite their struggles, G2 still has dangerous pieces. Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov remains one of the best AWPers in the world, capable of single-handedly carrying the team through difficult matches. His presence alone makes them a serious threat to any team in the playoffs.

Additionally, Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač and Nikita "HeavyGod" Martynenko have stepped up, with HeavyGod in particular proving to be a strong anchor. If he continues his solid form, G2 could have a key defensive advantage against MOUZ.

However, the biggest concern for G2 has been the performance of Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa. Brought in to fill in legendary Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's shoes, malbsMd has struggled to fill the role, often finishing near the bottom of the scoreboard. To make matters worse, he has been recently outperformed by the veteran IGL, Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski. If malbsMd can’t step up, they might find themselves overwhelmed by MOUZ’s firepower.

Map Veto:

Both teams have clear veto preferences, making the map selection an interesting factor in this series.

• MOUZ’s permaban is Anubis, meaning it will be off the table right away.
• G2 will ban Train, as they have consistently done in previous events.

When it comes to map picks:

• MOUZ is likely to select Nuke, a map where they have looked dominant in recent months.
• G2 may opt for Inferno, and since it is a secondary ban for MOUZ, they may be able to throw their opponents off-kilter.

For the second round of bans:

• MOUZ will likely remove Dust2, just as they did in their EPL matchup against G2.
• G2 may target Mirage, though an Ancient ban is also a possibility since MOUZ has a strong track record on that map.

If G2 bans Mirage, Ancient will likely be the decider—setting up an exciting conclusion to the series.

Prediction: MOUZ to Repeat History?

MOUZ has been in excellent form, while G2 has struggled with consistency and role adjustments. Given their recent 2-1 victory over G2 at EPL S21, we anticipate a similar result here.

Unless malbsMd steps up and G2 finds a solution to their instability, MOUZ is expected to edge out the series 2-1 and advance to the semifinals. The winner of this match will go on to face Eternal Fire in the semifinals.
