Astralis Bring Back jabbi to Avoid Singapore Major Roster Conflict
Astralis are bringing Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard back into their starting lineup for Stake Ranked Episode 5 in Barcelona, just two weeks after replacing him. The temporary switch is intended to avoid a roster eligibility conflict that could threaten the organization's invitation to the PGL Singapore Major 2026 in Counter-Strike 2.
jabbi will replace Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov for the rest of the tournament. Astralis announced the return on Tuesday (October 27), with the Dane traveling to Barcelona at short notice.
A Last-Minute Return for an Elimination Match
In its announcement, Astralis praised jabbi for agreeing to help at short notice, saying his decision at a pivotal moment showed "exactly the kind of professional he is."
The team lost its opening Stake Ranked Episode 5 series 0-2 to fnatic on October 27, putting it into the lower bracket. Astralis were scheduled to face magic on Wednesday, October 28, in a best-of-three elimination match. The Barcelona event runs through October 30, shortly before the VRS cutoff for Singapore Major invitations.
Why Does Astralis Need jabbi Back?
On October 13, Astralis brought in Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek and cmtry to replace jabbi and Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen. But cmtry's move created a complication: he still appears on the Valve Regional Standings (VRS) roster of his previous team, FUT Esports.
FUT have used Álvaro “SunPayus” García in just three matches at PGL Masters Bucharest. Under the VRS system, a new player needs five appearances within a team's last ten matches to replace the outgoing player on its ranking roster. If FUT are eliminated before reaching that threshold, cmtry could remain listed with them.
Meanwhile, cmtry was one match away from meeting the same five-game threshold with Astralis. Had he played another match while FUT's roster remained unchanged, he could have appeared on two Major-eligible rosters at the November 2 cutoff. Valve's rules do not allow two rosters sharing the same player to accept invitations, making the overlap a potential problem for the lower-ranked team.
By fielding jabbi instead, Astralis avoid giving cmtry that fifth appearance during Stake Ranked Episode 5. It is a precaution against a specific eligibility scenario, not an announcement that jabbi has permanently returned to the starting five.
Astralis Roster for Stake Ranked Episode 5
- Love “phzy” Smidebrant
- Victor “Staehr” Staehr
- Gytis “ryu” Glušauskas
- Kamil “siuhy” Szkaradek
- Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard (stand-in)
Filip “NEO” Kubski remains the team's coach. The temporary swap addresses the potential duplicate-roster issue, while Astralis' final Major placement still depends on the standings used to issue invitations.
