All roads lead to Shanghai. After an exciting Split 1 for all the four major regional leagues, now it is time for the second international VALORANT tournament of the 2024 season: VCT Masters Shanghai.

Set to feature 12 teams this time, they will all be competing for the second international title of the year. Set to run from the 23rd of May to the 9th of June, Masters Shanghai will also be introducing a brand-new format twist.

The Path to Shanghai

Even more so than Madrid, the path to Shanghai bristled with challenges and obstacles, one singular path, known as – Stage 1. Kicking off only two weeks after the conclusion of Madrid, Stage 1 has been an exceptional exciting viewing experience for the audience, and an incredibly brutal one for the teams to face.

To put it into perspective: each regional league kicked off their Stage 1 roughly two weeks after the official conclusion of Madrid – that being the Grand Finals.

In Stage 1, the 11 teams are then again split into two groups and play into a single-round robin. 6 of the 11 teams are allowed to advance from this Group Stage. Out of the 6, they will need to play a hybrid-elimination bracket in Playoffs.

The bottom two seeds from each group that qualified for Playoffs – so 2nd and 3rd seed – play in a single-elimination series. Then, the top 4 teams in Stage 1 at this point play in a double-elimination bracket. The top 3 teams qualify for Shanghai.

That said, several days ago, Riot introduced a secondary twist which makes winning Playoffs all the more important. Prior to this, qualifying was the main goal. Meaning past that, it was almost a formality between the teams that have qualified.

But now, the 1st seed from each region, meaning the winner of each Stage 1 Playoffs from Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China, will not only advance past the Swiss Stage to the Playoffs, but they will also be afforded the luxury of selecting the round 1 opponents.

VCT Masters Shanghai 2024: All Qualified Teams

The path to Shanghai begins with Split 1: a domestic tournament held in each of the four regions – Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China. The top 3 teams, the winner and the two runners-up from each of these events, will qualify for Shanghai.
