Format and Stakes

MSI 2024 will feature a revised format – with bigger stakes and ties to the rest of the calendar. The winner of this MSI will be given an immediate qualification pass to Worlds; however, the winning team will still need to qualify for their domestic region’s Summer Playoffs to keep the pass. This was said to ensure that the team remained committed to their success in their home league.

Moreover, the guaranteed spot also counts as an additional slot for their region, meaning it will not interfere with the already pre-existing number of available slots for Worlds later this year.

Furthermore, the next best performing region will also earn an additional slot for their region for Worlds. The team itself is not guaranteed qualification, however.

MSI 2024 will run off two stages: the Play-In Stage and the Bracket Stage. In the Play-In Stage, the 2nd seeds from each of the 4 major regions will compete alongside the qualified teams from the minor regions for a total of 8 teams.

  • Separated into 2 double-elimination bracket.
  • Bo3 format.
  • Top 2 from each bracket advances to Bracket Stage.

The Bracket Stage will see the 4 remaining teams compete against the 4 1st seeds from the major regions, resulting in a total of 8 teams for the Bracket Stage.

  • Single double-elimination bracket.
  • Every team will play in the opening round.
  • Bo5 format.
  • 8 teams seeded into 4 pools, arranged across the bracket
  • Teams from the same region will not be on the same side of the bracket
