One of the most prominent names in European League of Legends, Martin “Rekkles” Larrson made waves last year with his move to LCK Challengers.

Playing under Faker’s T1’s academy banner, Rekkles made his LCK CL debut with the academy team earlier today. While they lost the game, it set the record for peak viewership.

What is Rekkles doing in Korea?

In case you missed it or haven’t been following the off-season, Rekkles made a surprising move to make a move to Korea. What was more surprising is that he will play for T1 academy in LCK Challengers.

The decision comes after an illustrious LEC career spanning 11 years with multiple LEC titles and respectable international finishes. 2023 also saw Rekkles return to Fnatic after three years. He transitioned to support mid season, but it did not work.

T1 Academy Rekkles’ debut

The two biggest names Faker and Rekkles now unite under the T1 banner, taking the brand’s legacy to a greater height.

The LCK Challengers kicked off yesterday. Today, the European legend debuted with his team against Kwangdong Freecs academy roster.

They comfortably took down KDF Challengers in the first game. After their win, the T1.A team flashed the FNC emote.

Playing the support role on Senna, Rekkles finished the first game with a 4/0/6 KDA with a Kill Participation of 90%.

KDF Challengers came back in the next two games, defeating T1 Academy with a 2-1 score. Rekkles was the top participant for the game and concluded the game on a KDA of 8/3/35.

The debut attracted a lot of eyes, as multiple Western Rekkles fans tuned in to see their star shine in a different league. The stream reached a peak viewership of 159K, comfortably breaking the viewership record.

Unfortunately, it’d be difficult to stream the Challengers in English with LCK returning tomorrow, since there is no official LCK Challengers stream in English.

The casters will be looking to co-stream the Rekkles game for the western audience with their own resources, until there is a long-term plan in place.

The amazing peak is a testament to Rekkles’ notoriety. It will be interesting to see if LCK decides to co-stream the games in English officially for the Western audience. Currently no such promises are made.

An Amazing start to LoL Esports:

With an unprecedented peak for LCK CL, the debut of Karmine Corp and their games against MAD Lion KOI also set an all-time peak viewership record for LEC.

The season start for LoL esports has been going extremely well and reaping some amazing fruits. With three more Leagues starting in the upcoming days, it will be interesting to see how they fare.  The biggest of them all, LCK starts tomorrow with Nongshim RedForce taking on DRX.
