The Overwatch Season 5 Midseason patch brought with it the Taking Reign event, signaling the end of the year‑long Reign of Talon storyline. To close out Vendetta's fight with Doomfist for control of Talon, Blizzard has introduced this new event alongside a dedicated Premium Event Pass, challenges, and rewards.

Here's everything to know about the Taking Reign event in Overwatch.

How Does the Overwatch Taking Reign Event Work?

The Taking Reign event features an Event Pass with 24 tiers of rewards that can be unlocked by earning Event XP. Unlike traditional Overwatch events, however, this one includes a Premium track.

While 14 tiers are free to unlock, 10 sit behind a paywall. For 1,000 Overwatch Coins, players can unlock the full pass and earn exclusive rewards, including a Legendary Doomfist skin and a Legendary weapon for Vendetta.

As for the free track, the main attraction is an Epic Sigma skin.

Players need to earn 1,000 Event XP to complete each tier, meaning a total of 24,000 XP is required to finish the pass. Note that normal Battle Pass XP does not count toward event progression. Event XP must be earned by playing matches and completing event challenges.

Each week, players receive four event challenges, each rewarding 2,000 Event XP. Simply playing matches also grants Event XP. Combined, over the course of five weeks, you just need to finish less than three weeks' worth of challenges to earn enough XP to complete the pass.

The Taking Reign Premium Event Pass is not time‑sensitive. Once purchased, players can complete it at any time, even after the season ends.

Challenges

Complete 5 games. Wins grant double progress.

2,000 Event XP

Week 2 challenges are the same as Week 1 and offer the same Event XP. They will be unlocked on November 10.
