Overwatch Season 5 Midseason Patch Introduces Doctrine & D.Mon Nerfs, Mauga Buff, and More
Marking the halfway point of Overwatch Season 5, Blizzard has released the mid‑season patch, introducing nerfs and buffs to 20 heroes, along with several events, skins, and quality‑of‑life changes.
The nerfs include changes to D.Mon, Doctrine, Genji, Vendetta, and Sombra. Among them, Doctrine was hit the hardest, as his primary fire, Shrouded Momentum, and Infuse received major damage reductions and cooldown increases.
As for buffs, Junker Queen, Mauga, Shion, Illari, and Brigitte were among the targeted heroes. While many of these changes are minimal, some, like those for Junker Queen and Mauga, brought considerable improvements.
Here's a preview of the Overwatch Season 5 mid‑season patch notes and all the changes it brought.
New Events
Taking Reign
Running from November 3 to December 7, this five‑week event builds towards the conclusion of the year‑long Reign of Talon storyline.
You can play games and complete challenges to earn event rewards, or upgrade the event pass for 1,000 Overwatch Coins to earn premium cosmetics.
The free pass includes an Epic Sigma skin recolor, while the premium option rewards the Legendary Resurgence Doomfist skin, Vendetta's new Heroic Weapon, and more.
OWCS World Finals Cheer Rally
From November 24 to December 7, players can complete in-game challenges or watch the OWCS World Finals broadcast (Dec 2-6) to earn Cheers. You can then use Cheers to earn rewards such as Loot Boxes, Battle Pass XP, and more.
Junkrat’s Loot Hunt + Double XP Weekend
Between November 19 and 23, you can play matches to earn Loot Boxes. Players also have the added bonus of receiving double XP every match over the weekend.
Excavation Initiative
The Excavation Initiative event from Season 3 has returned. Between November 3 and December 7, players can earn Loot Boxes by simply logging in and winning a game. Consistently completing challenges over the weeks can reward you with Base, Epic, and Legendary Loot Boxes.
