The IEM Cologne Major 2026 is almost here, and with it comes one of the most exciting traditions in all of CS2: the Pick'Ems Challenge. Stage 1 kicks off on June 2, and it's time to lock in your predictions before the server goes live. We've done the homework so you don't have to: here's our IEM Cologne Major Stage 1 Pick'Ems Guide!

Before diving in, remember: these are educated picks based on recent form, tournament momentum, and overall team quality. CS2 always finds a way to surprise, but that's exactly what makes this so fun.

How the Pick'Ems Work

Not sure where to start? Check out our full guide on how to play the IEM Cologne Major 2026 Pick'Ems Challenge for a step-by-step breakdown. But here's the quick version:

Stage 1 uses a 16-team Swiss system. You need to predict which team goes 3-0 (perfect run), which teams finish 3-1 or 3-2 (advance to Stage 2), and which team crashes out at 0-3. The closer your picks are to reality, the more rewards you earn, including a shot at the coveted Diamond Coin.

Worth noting: this year's Major Hub has received a complete overhaul. Souvenir packages and sticker capsules are gone, replaced by a brand new shop system and Cologne 2026 tokens. Read all about it here.

IEM Cologne Major Stage 1 Pick'Ems: Strafe's Predictions

3-0: The Unstoppable Ones

GamerLegion: This pick practically writes itself. GamerLegion ran through IEM Atlanta 2026 like a freight train, powering their way to a grand final appearance and finishing as runners-up after a dominant tournament run. With the squad looking sharp in every series they played, they enter Stage 1 as arguably the most in-form team in the field. A 3-0 run feels not just possible: it feels overdue.

Team Liquid: Liquid have been quietly building something dangerous. They've shown consistency in recent months and know how to navigate the Swiss format, grinding out results even when things get uncomfortable. Stage 1 is their hunting ground, and they have the firepower and tactical discipline to come out of it without a blemish.

3-1 / 3-2: Advancing, Just Not Cleanly

MIBR: MIBR have been a fascinating story in 2026. The squad features brnz4n, insani, kl1m, LNZ, and venomzera, a genuinely mixed international roster carrying the weight of one of CS's most iconic brands. They have enough quality to advance, but the road won't be smooth. Expect a few nervy series before they punch their Stage 2 ticket.

HEROIC: Few teams know how to compete at a Major better than HEROIC. They're seasoned, structured, and almost never get rattled under pressure. They're not the favorites to top the group, but backing them to finish 3-1 or 3-2 is one of the safest bets on the board.

NRG: NRG showed real teeth at IEM Atlanta and have the individual talent to outgun most opponents in Stage 1. They can be streaky, but when they're clicking, they're one of the most exciting teams to watch in North America. Advancing at 3-1 or 3-2 suits their profile perfectly.

BetBoom: BetBoom are one of the more underrated teams in this stage. Sitting comfortably in the CIS top tier, they bring solid fundamentals and a hunger to prove themselves on the biggest stage in CS. Don't expect them to light up the scoreboard early, but do expect them to keep winning just enough to move on.

Tyloo: Tyloo remain the standard-bearers of Chinese CS2 and they've earned that reputation the hard way. Their discipline and map pool make them a dangerous opponent for any team in Stage 1. A 3-1 or 3-2 finish keeps their Major story alive, and they're more than capable of delivering exactly that.

BIG: Playing in front of a home crowd in Cologne is massive for BIG. The German fan base will be electric, and that energy genuinely matters. Just ask anyone who's watched BIG compete in Germany over the years. They've got the talent to advance, and the crowd on their side makes them even trickier to put away. A 3-1 or 3-2 finish feels right for a team that thrives in the spotlight.

0-3: The Hard Exits

THUNDERdOWNUNDER: The Australians have made it to the Major, and that alone deserves respect. But Stage 1 of the IEM Cologne Major is a brutal environment, and THUNDERdOWNUNDER simply don't have the firepower or the international LAN experience to survive the Swiss gauntlet. Picking them 0-3 is not disrespect. It's just reading the room.

Sinners Esports: Sinners are a solid European squad, but their ceiling at a Major of this magnitude looks limited. They've struggled to replicate their regional form on the biggest stages, and against the caliber of opponents they'll face in Stage 1, it's hard to see them picking up the wins they need. An 0-3 exit is the realistic outcome here.

Strafe's Final Pick'Ems Sheet

  • 3-0: GamerLegion, Team Liquid
  • 3-1 / 3-2: MIBR, HEROIC, NRG, BetBoom, Tyloo, BIG
  • 0-3: THUNDERdOWNUNDER, Sinners Esports

Stage 1 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 runs from June 2 to 5. Eight teams will punch their tickets to Stage 2, and eight will head home.

Get your picks in, trust the process, and may the Diamond Coin be yours.
