The Quarterfinals are in full flight at Worlds 2026, and one of the most exciting matches for Western fans will see LYON take on the almighty Gen.G this Wednesday, November 4, at 2 pm PT/11 pm CET.

Only one team will secure their place in the Semifinals, and with Gen.G looking like the biggest favorites to win it all, LYON will look to deliver a shock to the entire League of Legends scene in Allen, Texas.

Is This Finally Chovy's Year?

Time and again, Chovy and Gen.G arrive at Worlds looking like the best team in the world. Clean, methodical, and a step above just about everyone else, this Gen.G team is something else.

But then again, it feels like we've been saying Gen.G are "something else" for years now, and yet, the Summoner's Cup continues to elude them. For Chovy, more specifically, it seems the only way that the title of 'best player of all time not named Faker' will ever rest easy on his head is if he comes away with a Worlds title at least once. Can this finally be the year?

Inspired Seeks Revenge... Two Years Later

Almost exactly two years ago, Inspired led FlyQuest to one of the best showings by a North American team at Worlds in recent years.

After making it through the Swiss Stage at Worlds 2024, Inspired and co. got paired with Gen.G for their Quarterfinals match. What followed was a story as beautiful as it was tragic for any fan of North American League of Legends.

Against all odds, FlyQuest shocked Gen.G to get ahead 2-1 in the series and stand just one game away from delivering the biggest upset of the tournament. Despite a hard-fought couple of games, FlyQuest ultimately lost the series to Gen.G, turning the story into a tale of "what if..." instead.

Now, Inspired is back to try and finish what he started, this time with a brand new squad.

Matchup to Watch: West and East GOATs Clash in the Jungle

Inspired and Canyon are two players that need no introduction. For years now, each player has dominated their respective regions from deep within the jungle.

While both players have an incredible success rate in their regions — Inspired in the LCS, and Canyon in the LCK — the time has come to get it done on the biggest stage of all.

The two players have their similarities; they are both experienced veteran presences with deep champion pools and a few surprises up their sleeves. Where they differ, though, is in the roles they play within their teams.

Where Canyon is clearly another cog in the well-oiled machine that is Gen.G, Inspired is very much the heart and soul of this LYON squad. Leader, playmaker, and both villain and hero; Inspired always turns up when things look dire for LYON, for better or for worse.

If Gen.G have failed to live up the hype at Worlds in recent years, it is perhaps in part precisely because they lacked that kind of figure in the team. Whenever things started going wrong for Gen.G, no one was there to make the hero play and dig the team out of a hole through sheer willpower and creativity.

In this Quarterfinal matchup, there is no doubt Canyon and Gen.G will stick to their gameplan, confident in their superiority over LYON. What will be interesting to see is how Canyon deals with Inspired if and when the Polish jungler starts coming up with unconventional angles to throw Gen.G off their rhythm.

Gen.G vs LYON Prediction: Who Makes It to the Semifinals?

For all of Gen.G's struggles at Worlds over the years, they usually only begin to falter a little deeper into the tournament. Pressure has traditionally played a big role on Gen.G's level of play at this stage, but they're not expected to be feeling much of it at all against LYON to begin their playoffs run.

LYON, on the other hand, have fought admirably to make it to this stage, but drawing a team as strong as Gen.G for their Quarterfinal clash should spell the end of the LCS' journey at Worlds 2026.

It's worth noting that the two teams already played each other just over a week ago in the Swiss Stage, where LYON put up a bigger fight than most would have expected but ended up losing the series 1-2 in the end.

Now, we expect Gen.G to repeat the feat, taking down LYON 3-1 to secure their place in the Semifinals at Worlds 2026.

Our readers also agree with the pick, with 89% of the Strafe fan votes choosing Gen.G to win the series.
