FUT Esports has officially announced the signing of 27-year-old Spanish Álvaro "SunPayus" García as the new primary AWPer for the CS2 roster.
After parting ways with G2 Esports, SunPayus replaces Nikita 'cmtry' Samolotov on FUT's starting lineup.
SunPayus's 14-Month Run at G2 Esports
SunPayus's move to FUT concludes a 14-month tenure with G2 Esports that started in July 2025 alongside coach Eetu "sAw" Saha after leaving HEROIC.
During his early months with G2, SunPayus helped the team win a trophy at BLAST Open Fall 2025 by defeating Team Vitality 3–2, becoming one of the few teams who managed to beat a near-perfect and very dominant Vitality in 2025.
The squad added another victory at Stake Ranked Episode 1 in April 2026 and achieved a 5th–8th place finish at the IEM Cologne Major 2026.
Despite these highlights, G2 struggled to maintain peak form as rival teams leveled up, leaving the roster plateaued in top-tier competitions.
Seeking a more aggressive AWPer, G2 benched SunPayus for Artem "r1nkle" Moroz on June 25, 2026. After three months on the bench, G2 officially released SunPayus on September 29, 2026, enabling his immediate transfer to FUT Esports.
FUT's Recent Form and cmtry's Replacement
FUT Esports opted for a lineup change after experiencing inconsistent results with their previous AWPer cmtry. FUT enjoyed major successes earlier in 2026—winning PGL Bucharest 2026 and even a 2nd-place finish at the Esports World Cup 2026.
However, cmtry suffered an individual slump, recording consistently weak ratings in the last three to four months. This statistical drop coincided with FUT's recent team struggles, including a 9th–11th placement at the IEM Cologne Major 2026 and a 7th–8th exit at BLAST Open Fall 2026.
What the Move Entails for Both Sides
For FUT Esports, acquiring a seasoned tier-1 AWPer with multiple titles and multiple major playoff appearances provides essential experience.
If FUT can integrate SunPayus's tactical experience effectively, this move could provide the tier-1 consistency needed to make FUT a permanent trophy contender at international tournaments.
With SunPayus now joining, the active roster is:
- Dmytro "dem0n" Myroshnychenko
- Aulon "Krabeni" Fazlija
- Džiugas "dziugss" Steponavičius
- Yasin "xfl0ud" Koç
- Álvaro "SunPayus" García
- Head Coach András "coolio" Fercsák.
For SunPayus, the transfer offers a fresh start after months on G2's bench, allowing him to return to active competition with guaranteed playing time.
The new-look FUT roster will make its official debut at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026, starting October 24, 2026.
