Riot Games has just announced a brand new League of Legends tournament: the 2026 Demacia Cup International Invitational. Set to take place right before Worlds 2026, this new and improved edition of the Demacia Cup will feature teams from all six Majors regions as they compete for the biggest slice of the ¥1.5 million prize pool.

What Is the Demacia Cup International Invitational?

Traditionally, the Demacia Cup has been an LPL-only tournament that would take place in China around the start of the new year. This time around, the Demacia Cup 2026 is taking on a whole new look as the tournament goes international for the first time ever.

The competition will feature a total of 12 teams stemming from all 6 Major regions. That means there will be at least one representative from the LCS, LEC, LCK, LPL, CBLOL, and LCP present. The better a region performed at MSI 2026, the more slots it received.

While the top teams from each region are busy preparing for Worlds, the 2026 Demacia Cup will grant some of the best League of Legends teams who did not secure their spot at Worlds something to compete for before the season is over.

Here's a closer look at how the slots will be divided:

*Note that the final lineup of teams attending will be settled once the third and final split of each region draws to an end and the final teams at Worlds and Demacia Cup 2026 are decided.

Demacia Cup 2026 Format and Schedule

The 2026 Demacia Cup International Invitational will serve as the final Tier 1 League of Legends stop before Worlds comes around. The tournament will run for a total of two weeks, starting on October 3 until the Grand Finals take place on October 17.

Here's a closer look at the complete Demacia Cup 2026 schedule and format to understand how it will all work:

  • Swiss Stage (October 3-8):
    • Starts Saturday, October 3
    • 12 teams - Swiss system
    • Swiss Stage will be entirely online
    • All opening matchups are drawn randomly (same-region pairings are avoided)
    • Round 1 matches are Bo1 - all following matches are Bo3
    • Teams to reach 2 match wins qualify for the next stage
    • A total of 8 teams will qualify to the Knockout Stage
  • Knockout Stage (October 12-17):
    • The playoffs (Knockout Stage) will be played on LAN (offline), in Beijing, China
    • Single-elimination bracket
    • All matches are Bo5
    • Grand Finals take place on Saturday, October 17

New Rule Addition: Coach Comms

Solely for the Knockout Stage, the 2026 Demacia Cup will try out the use of 'Coach Comms,' which will function similarly to the way Coach Voice worked in the LCK at the start of the year.

Essentially, Coach Comms will allow a team's coach to talk directly to their players during a match for a short window of time. The way it works is simple:

  • Coaches can call for Coach Comms up to 3 times per game.
  • When used, it will give coaches a 45 second window to deliver instructions to their players.
  • The game will not be paused. Players continue playing while receiving instructions.

Though this addition was already tried out in the LCK and LCP earlier this year, the 2026 Demacia Cup will allow for teams and tournament organizers to further test Coach Comms in high-stakes scenarios in a potential attempt to make it a full-time addition to LoL esports in the future.

To understand how such a rule may affect players, teams, and the game as a whole, make sure to check out our original article on Coach Voice.

An Exciting Addition to the Season

Rather than allow for the season of a big chunk of teams to end early, the 2026 Demacia Cup International Invitational will serve as the perfect complement to the League of Legends World Championship for fans from all over the globe.

Now, even if your favorite team did not manage to qualify to Worlds, you will still get to watch them go toe-to-toe against international competition! Make sure to stay tuned for further broadcast details and the full lineup of teams.
