VALORANT has successfully solidified itself as a true contender for longevity in esports - a rare accomplishment for an oversaturated field at times - with their latest victory at the Esports Awards 2024, snagging for itself the ‘Esports Game of the Year’ award.

Riot’s popular FPS title is coming on its 5th year since launch in 2025 and has already cemented itself as one of the biggest esports titles on the planet. The achievement came amidst a fierce competition between fellow Riot Games’ MOBA title AKA League of Legends; the Valve-made competition it usurped with its rise, Counter-Strike (technically it’s CS2 now but the point stands!); and Valve’s other mega esports title and massively popular MOBA game, Dota 2.

Other competitors also in the running for the achievement were Apex Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, and PUBG Mobile. Amongst them, VALORANT is the second youngest, making this milestone achievement even more remarkable.

VALORANT wins again at the Esports Awards

In 2023, VALORANT earned Esports Game of the Year as well amidst Riot Games’ and the VALORANT community’s sweeping of the event’s awards. Riot's tactical shooter title also won the award in 2021 and 2022, making them 4 for 5 since launch. This year’s victory makes it a four-peat and it’s not for nothing.

The first international event of the year, VCT Masters Madrid, clocked in at 34.9 million hours watched and a peak viewership of 1.69 million (not including Chinese viewers). That number exploded once again with a 2.36 million peak viewership (including Chinese viewers) at VCT Masters Shanghai.

If that’s not enough proof of the massive following VALORANT has accrued, how about the 1.73 million total registrants for the inaugural debut of VALORANT’s Pick’Em system in the group stage? Or the fact that VCT China, in its debut year, has marked a viewership peak of 1.84 million, 29% more by the way than the combined rest of the leagues viewerships.

All of these positives come within this year and only goes to prove why VALORANT has consistently proven itself one of the most outstanding esports products.

The official VCT 2024 season may be over but there's still plenty of VALORANT action ahead in the OFF//SEASON. So, stick around for more thrilling matches and unforgettable moments!

Is VALORANT Crossplay? PC, PS5, Xbox & Mobile Explained (2026)

VALORANT does not offer crossplay between PC and console. This means that PC players can only match and play against other PC players, and console players (PS5 and Xbox) players can only match and play against other console players. While there is no crossplay in VALORANT, the game does support cross progression, which means that your account, skins, and any other form of progress carry from one platform to the other (from PC to console, and vice versa).
