The Day 6 of VALORANT Champions 2024 was expected to be one of the boring days, with both games having a clear favorite to win. But the day has started quite unexpectedly.

In a surprising turn of events, Leviatán has fallen to China #3 Trace Esports. The game that lasted three maps, concluded on a one-sided Ascent win for the Chinese side.

The win is the second upset delivered by Trace Esports at the event. In their opening game they defeated Team Vitality to secure today’s match. With the win today, they have now secured a playoff spot and top seed ahead of Leviatán, a contender to win.

Talking about the loss, LEV c0m said:

“I think, I don't even know. I would have to look back at the VOD honestly, it feels like a lot of things went wrong.

I think just overall, like today was a little bit, like we didn't play fully as a team and they played pretty well as a team and you can tell they're pretty comfortable on the map.

And yeah, I would just have to look back at the VOD and see what happened.”

Leviatán’s Ascent composition has helped them stay undefeated, but today, Trace completely obliterated them on Ascent.

When questioned about the compositions’ effectiveness, Coach itopata said:

“I think we didn't execute the composition properly. But they also did some good anti on us.

They were keeping, they were keeping certain areas of the map that we usually never get contested on.

And I think that kind of threw us off a little bit and also the losing, the losing, the anti-eco didn't help at all.”

After the drastic result in Shanghai, the community did not consider China as a top region, the pick’ems predicted an early elimination for all the the Chinese teams.

But with FPX’s impressive performance, Trace’s back to back upsets, China is certainly a contender to go a long distance.

Commenting on his team and China’s recent triumph, LuoK1ng said:

“I have always believed that efforts may not always lead to success, but if you keep working hard, you always have a chance. I want to say that our region can achieve a lot, not just now but in the future as well.”

Leviatán will next play the winner of Team Vitality - Talon Esports match-up. Starting tomorrow, Champions Seoul action will feature elimination games, starting with Sentinels taking on FunPlus Phoenix.
