Brazilian League of Legends top laner Leonardo "Robo" Souza is suing paiN Gaming in Brazil's labor courts after the organization terminated his contract for cause in July. He is seeking R$3.46 million (approximately $681,000) in compensation and employment-related payments.

The case was reported on Friday, October 16, by Gabriel Oliveira of Brazilian outlet ge, who obtained documents from the proceedings. paiN argues that Robo failed to meet his contractual obligations, while the player's legal team disputes both the allegations and the organization's internal investigation. No court ruling has been issued.

Robo stepped away from competition in late April following a difficult start to paiN's season. He had publicly disagreed with the coaching staff over practice, roster decisions and the team's approach to the game. Although he was no longer competing, his contract remained in place.

According to the documents reported by ge, paiN launched an internal review of his performance on June 8. The organization formally dismissed him for cause on July 13, cutting short a contract that had been set to run until November 15, 2027.

One of the documents was a performance report by assistant coach Matheus "Sarkis" Guimarães Sarquis, who raised concerns about Robo's individual play. Other members of the coaching staff described problems with his conduct. The legal dispute centers on whether the alleged behavior justified terminating his contract for cause, rather than ending it under the usual terms of a dismissal without cause.

What Did Former paiN Coach Xero Say About Robo?

Former head coach Xero described clashes that he believed had damaged relationships within the team. His report alleged that Robo pushed for roster changes, argued with staff during meetings and made offensive remarks. Xero subsequently left paiN in August.

Drawing on nearly a decade of experience as a coach, Xero offered a particularly harsh assessment of the situation:

I've never come across a player who, in such a short time, caused so much damage to the team's working environment, mutual trust and ability to function.

Robo disputes that his actions amounted to serious misconduct. His defense acknowledges that he can be blunt and had expressed frustration, but argues that neither was grounds for dismissal for cause.

The top laner says he left LOUD to join a project built around experienced players and led by Sarkis. He maintains that those plans changed during the season, including after Alexandre "TitaN" Lima dos Santos was suspended from paiN Gaming and other roster changes followed.

His lawyers also question the fairness of the internal investigation, arguing that paiN gathered the evidence, prepared the reports and made the final disciplinary decision. They maintain that poor competitive performance alone is not a valid ground for dismissal for cause under Brazilian labor law.

Why Is Robo Seeking More Than $680,000?

Robo is asking the court to overturn his dismissal for cause, recognize an employment relationship and award employment-related payments and damages. Three claims make up most of the total:

  • R$1.344 million in material damages (about $265,000): his lawyers argue that the termination came after the roster transfer window had closed, limiting his chances of joining another team that season.
  • R$420,000 in moral damages (about $83,000): the claim concerns the alleged impact of the dismissal on his professional reputation and public image.
  • R$896,000 in contractual compensation (about $176,000): the amount is based on a contract provision covering compensation tied to the remaining term of his deal.

Additional claims bring the total to R$3,457,524.80, or roughly $681,000. The dollar figures are approximate conversions using the October 16, 2026 exchange rate. They are not amounts awarded by a court, and the claims could be accepted, reduced or rejected.

How Has paiN Gaming Responded?

In a statement to ge, paiN said the decision followed a review by its coaching staff and management of Robo's contractual obligations. The organization said he was given an opportunity to provide his account before the contract was terminated.

paiN also said it respects Robo's right to challenge the dismissal in court, but stands by its internal process and intends to present its defense. The case remains in its early stages, with no ruling yet on the dismissal, employment status or financial claims.
