Most decorated player in CS:GO history falls short in CS2

In the world of Counter-Strike, where legends are forged and records are set, one name has stood the test of time—Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen. However, the recent CS2 Copenhagen Major RMR (Regional Major Ranking) has marked the end of an era, as the seasoned Danish player's illustrious Major attendance streak comes to an unexpected halt.

Preasy Esports disappointing exit

The CS2 Copenhagen Major RMR proved to be a harsh battleground for Preasy Esport, and the acquisition of dupreeh in December 2023 aimed to bolster their chances.

Unfortunately, after a challenging 1-3 performance, including a decisive loss to Guild Eagles in the final best-of-three, Preasy found themselves on the sidelines.

The loss not only disappointed fans but also shattered the dreams of witnessing dupreeh's continued dominance in Majors.

Tough bracket, tougher luck

Preasy faced a daunting bracket, encountering formidable opponents like Heroic and OG in consecutive best-of-one matchups.

Despite putting up a commendable fight, they fell short in both encounters, securing only nine rounds in each game.

A sigh of relief came with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Pera, with a standout performance on Nuke. However, Guild Eagles emerged as a formidable opponent, sealing a 1-2 series and dashing Preasy's hopes.

End of an Era: Dupreeh's Major streak snapped

The defeat not only marked Preasy Esport's exit but also terminated dupreeh's extraordinary Major attendance streak.

Since DreamHack Winter 2013 to the 2023 BLAST Paris Major, dupreeh attended every single Major in Global Offensive history, setting a record with 19 appearances.

His journey saw him secure five Major championships, four with Astralis and one with Vitality at the 2023 BLAST Paris Major.

Despite technically being "Majors" before Global Offensive, dupreeh's official journey started at DreamHack Winter 2012 with 3DMAX.

Although the streak is now broken, dupreeh retains the record for the most Counter-Strike Majors attended, a remarkable feat that is likely to stand for quite some time.

Reflecting on the heartbreak

Following the elimination, dupreeh went to X to express his sentiments:

"Starting CS2 without the Major in Copenhagen is extremely sad, but in hindsight, it just wasn't meant to be"

In a heartfelt interview, dupreeh acknowledged the disappointment of missing the first Major in his home country. Despite Preasy's challenges, including a shaky map pool and early losses, he expressed pride in their effort and his personal journey.

"I did everything I could to try and be present, and I'm proud of myself because of that" 

As dupreeh looks ahead to a Major he'll experience from the sidelines, the Counter-Strike community mourns the end of an unparalleled era in Major attendance.
