History Is Made in Cologne: Team Falcons Are Major Champions

Team Falcons are the IEM Cologne Major 2026 champions. On June 21, at a sold-out LANXESS Arena, Falcons swept FURIA 3-0 in the Grand Finals to claim the most prestigious trophy in CS2. And with that, nearly a decade of heartbreak finally ended for one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.

The Night NiKo Finally Did It

If you've followed Counter-Strike for any length of time, you know what this moment means. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač has been the best player in the world at various points throughout his career. He's carried teams that had no business competing at the top. He's clutched rounds that shouldn't have been clutchable.

And yet, the one thing that always eluded him was the Major trophy.

Not anymore. In Cologne, NiKo didn't just win a Major. He won it at the most iconic CS venue in the world, against a FURIA side that came into the final riding serious momentum. The sweep was emphatic, the performance was vintage, and the moment was everything the community had been waiting years to see. Counter-Strike finally gave its greatest bridesmaid the crown he deserved.

m0NESY Takes Over the Stage

Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov had never played in a Major Grand Final before Cologne. He'd been one of the most exciting prospects in the game for years, the kind of AWPer who makes people stop mid-scroll to watch a clip, but the Major stage had always been one step too far. In 2026, he reached it in style.

m0NESY was named the MVP of the IEM Cologne Major 2026, capping off a tournament where he consistently showed up in the biggest moments. His performance throughout the event was a testament to just how locked in he was, and the Grand Final was no different. This was his first Major Grand Final appearance and his first Major win, and he walked away with the MVP award to go with it. Not a bad way to announce yourself on the biggest stage.

Six Majors. One Coach.

The story of Cologne wasn't just about the players. Head coach Danny "zonic" Sørensen added a sixth Major title to his resume, a number that borders on absurd when you say it out loud. Six Majors as a coach. The man has been at the center of Counter-Strike's biggest moments for years, first building dynasty after dynasty at Astralis, and now lifting trophies with Falcons.

What makes it even more remarkable is the road Falcons took to get there. They weren't favorites going into this tournament. Their Swiss stage run was shaky, they nearly stumbled out early, and the bracket didn't do them any favors. But zonic kept the team composed and Falcons delivered. That's what great coaches do.

karrigan Writes the Strangest Chapter

Finn "karrigan" Andersen's path to this Major title is unlike anything Counter-Strike has ever seen. His former team, FaZe Clan, failed to qualify for IEM Cologne Major 2026, leaving karrigan suddenly available just weeks before the roster lock. Falcons moved fast. They signed him, registered him as a substitute, and handed one of the most experienced IGLs in the game's history the keys to a squad that needed direction.

Here's the thing though: karrigan never played during the qualifying stages. He stepped in as a late addition and still walked out of Cologne as a Major champion. It's the first time in CS history that a player has won a Major without qualifying for it themselves.

To top it all off, karrigan also made his sixth Major Grand Final appearance in Cologne, breaking his own record as the player with the most Major final appearances ever. And in a line that perfectly captures the whole story, he admitted before the final that he felt like he was playing "the worst CS of his career." Didn't matter in the end.

kyxsan: A Champion Who Never Played

The wildest footnote of the entire tournament belongs to Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski. When karrigan joined Falcons, kyxsan was moved to the bench.

He didn't play a single map at the IEM Cologne Major 2026. Not one round, not one half. And yet, as a registered member of the Falcons roster, he walks away with a Major championship to his name.

A champion who never hopped onto server.

The Falcon Has Landed

Cologne 2026 will be remembered as the tournament where everything converged at once. A legendary player finally got his moment. A 20-year-old AWPer announced himself to the world. A coach quietly added another gold medal to an already absurd collection. And two players lifted a trophy through circumstances nobody could have scripted.

What's next for Falcons is anyone's guess. But right now, none of that matters. They're Major champions, and that's not going anywhere.
