Treant Protector is the most contested hero in Dota 2 right now. He is the most popular hero at DreamLeague Season 28. With 13 appearances but a staggering 170 (!) bans. His win rate is nothing to scoff at either, with 8 wins and 5 losses.

In this article, we will look into what makes Treant Protector such a power house, as well as why you should be picking him up in your pubs.

Five Reasons Treant Protector is the best support in Dota 2 patch 7.40c

Treant Protector is a good laner

During the early game, Rooftrellen is a pretty good hero to have at your side. He starts with decent health (670) and 3.4 strength gain. A starting armor of 3.5 allows him to mitigate significant amount of physical damage.

Treant's spells are all very useful in the lane. Nature's Grasp allows him to contend with ranged enemies, while Leech Seed makes most trades favor Treant. In most situations you'd max Living Armor which further helps Treant (and his allies) win early harassment.

Treant Protector significantly slows down enemy aggression

Similar to heroes such as Silencer, having a Treant in the game can greatly slow down enemy aggression. And that's mostly due to Living Armor.

When used on heroes, it can help them trade hits, dive for kills, or escape risky situations. On buildings, it can regenerate a significant portion of their health. Enemies must keep sieging the same building or see it fully healed with a couple of minutes.

Living Armor blocks 420 (560 with talent) damage from all sources. It can also heal 204 health with the talent. It's a fantastic sustain ability and greatly enables your allies all over the map. It does require some coordination to provide full value though.

Eye in the Forest is an incredible Shard upgrade

Aghanim's Shard can be hit-or-miss for a lot of heroes. Some are awesome like Phoenix, while others.. you'd rather never get (I'm looking at you, support Tiny). Treant protector has one of the best upgrades in the game. A free spell that provides vision for the team.

Eye in the Forest is basically free wards for the team, and plenty of them. You get three charges when you pick it up and a charge every 55 seconds. Each ward lasts for five minutes. You'll likely have 3-4 wards up at any given time, which is a huge amount of extra information for your team to work with.

Overgrowth is a powerful team fight ultimate

Rooftrellen's ultimate is an area of effect, BKB piercing ability that deals up to 475 damage.  It does come with a hefty mana cost and cooldown but that's a reasonable price to pay for such a strong spell.

Overgrowth can be countered by using dispels after it's effect. But if teams mistime their saves, or don't have any, then there is no counter-play to it. It's a massive area root that deals significant damage and locks people down for five seconds. What's not to like?

Rooftrellen has a flexible item build

While you have to buy Aghanim's Shard each game, the rest of the hero's item build is quite flexible. Players can buy utility items such as Solar, Glimmer, and Force Staff if they wish. You can focus on enhancing the hero's heals, with Greaves, Locket, and more auras. Or you can focus on bringing more team fight, with Blink Dagger setting up for game winning ultimates. There are very few wrong options here.

With his strong early game, flexible builds, and incredible Shard upgrade, it's no wonder pros value Treant Protector so highly. Here's hoping you can also abuse his strengths to grind some MMR in pubs.
