FlyQuest’s Top Laner Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau is back to Worlds for the first time since 2021. But that isn’t the most exciting thing connected to Bwipo in recent times. The Belgian Top Laner has been recorded on-stream for the last several weeks delivering searing commentary on former colleagues, current LEC and LCS players.

The degree of toxicity steadily increased over the course of these past weeks but it appears - the rest of the West is safe for now, as Bwipo confirms that he has reached out to his mental health specialist and has been diagnosed.

However, the nature of his diagnosis remains to be heard, as Bwipo has withheld the specific nature for the moment, promising to elaborate at a later date. Allegedly Nick “LS” De Cesare is the person to thank, as the League content creator reached out to Bwipo following the alarming escalation of behavior out of concern for the apparent massive shift in personality on the side of Bwipo.

Bwipo became... Bwipolar?

Bwipo’s shocking turn came over the course of several weeks, and covered a wide variety of topics all related to professional League of Legends. Among the topics he discussed on his stream included the lack of motivation from a large number of pros in both the LEC and LCS - ‘paycheck stealers’ was the term he used - as well as the criticism leveled against his former teammate Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov.

Many viewers and spectators commented on Bwipo’s clips and comments, however, it appeared none made the effort to reach out to check on the Belgian player’s mental health, or at least none did in an effective enough manner to elicit a response, until LS.

Bwipo on the Road to Recovery?

Bwipo appeared today on his stream, appearing much calmer than before and claimed that he had been given help for the diagnosis. He claimed that there was ‘something going on with him’ that had caused him to act in the manner he did.

Furthermore, he also confirmed that he had reached out and personally apologized to members of the community that he felt he had slighted during this strange period. He returned to Europe shortly after the conclusion of the LCS Championship to practice for the impending Worlds tournament.

I’ve always been a controversial player. When it comes to gameplay, I’m pretty thick-skinned, so I don’t mind people hating me for that. It sucks, of course, but I know that my gameplay has flaws right now, and I have to practice hard to make them better. I have no shame in playing poorly… I’ll feel shame when I play poorly in an official match.”

Bwipo is slated to appear at Worlds 2024 alongside FlyQuest. The roster recently won the LCS 2024 Championship, the final edition in fact of the LCS before its impending merger next year, and earned the top seed heading into Worlds 2024 after defeating Team Liquid in the finals.
