The changes to Statikk Shiv in Patch 14.22 have reshaped how this iconic item functions in League of Legends, creating new opportunities for various champions.

With its reduced cost of 2700 gold and reworked passive mechanics, several champions have emerged as particularly effective users of this lightning-charged item.

Top Performers with Statikk Shiv

  1. Kai'Sa stands as one of the premier users, boasting an impressive 51% pickrate with the item. Her ability to quickly stack the passive through her aggressive playstyle and her need for early ability evolves makes Statikk Shiv an excellent first item choice.
  2. Akshan demonstrates exceptional synergy with the item, maintaining a remarkable 63.69% pickrate, often building it first to further aid his already exceptional waveclear. His identity as a lane bully is also further accentuated with Statikk Shiv as a first item, accelerating him even faster towards his mid-game.
  3. Zeri throughout has remained essentially synonymous with Shiv, showing a consistent 65.83% pickrate as of Patch 15.1. The item's electic spark passive synergizes well with her ultimate, as well as assist in bolstering her weaknesses such as her short attack range.

Unconventional Success

In 2024, 2 champions found unexpected success with Statikk Shiv, hitting one of their most dominant peaks during this time thanks to the item. While these champions no longer enjoy the dominance that came with their synergy with the item, we think it bears reflecting on as we enter a new year of League of Legends and assuredly new surprises

  • Twisted Fate found surprising success with Statikk Shiv in 2024, particularly in his mid-lane matchups. The item's magic damage output complemented his ability power builds while providing much-needed attack speed for his Pick a Card ability.
  • LeBlanc revolutionized Statikk Shiv usage in professional play, singlehandedly also reviving her own pickrate in professional play. The item's synergy with her mobility-heavy kit allowed for quick passive stacking and unexpected burst damage patterns.

Strategic Considerations

The new Statikk Shiv passive now deals 60 magic damage on the first three attacks within an eight-second window, increasing to 85 against non-champion targets. This change particularly benefits champions who excel at quick trades rather than extended engagements.

The item's chain lightning effect can bounce to up to five nearby targets, making it particularly effective for champions who want to improve their wave clear or teamfight presence. The cooldown reset on takedowns encourages aggressive playmaking and rewards successful engagements.

For most carriers, Statikk Shiv works best as either a first or second item purchase.

The reduced cost of 2700 gold makes it an attractive early game option, especially for champions looking to spike in power during the mid-game phase.

Future Outlook

As the meta continues to evolve in early 2025, Statikk Shiv's position in the item hierarchy remains strong. The item's recent adjustments have created a balanced state where it offers clear advantages without being overpowered, particularly for champions who can leverage both its attack speed and burst damage components.

The success of unconventional users like LeBlanc and Twisted Fate suggests that we might see more creative applications of Statikk Shiv as players continue to experiment with different build paths and strategies. The item's versatility makes it a valuable addition to the arsenal of both traditional marksmen and innovative flex picks.

The combination of reliable wave clear, burst damage potential, and the new takedown reset mechanic positions Statikk Shiv as a core item for champions who want to maintain map pressure while retaining strong skirmishing potential. As teams adapt to the evolving meta, expect to see more champions incorporating this item into their core builds, particularly those who can capitalize on its unique combination of stats and effects.
